Where do i get one to upgrade my altar? It didn't drop with the first boss.

those shroud shards you get from killing enemies of the shroud, and grab shroud liquid. The mushrooms that like look little penis's. the small ones can be gathered, while the larger ones need chopped. You'll also need the alchemist to unlock the ability to make shroud cores. Most any question you ask can be answered by doing more quests, as most of the content to unlock more features or building materials is used by natural progression and exploration.

Anyone got a place with high density of specters for farming shroud cores?
Think the carpenters vault is good spot due to having 3 and it takes you like 2min to run through.
Shards are too low yield as you need 10 enemies per.

You can also craft shroud cores with the alchemist.

As i said, that way has too low yield. I can kill those 3 a lot quicker than 30 mobs + liquid.
