Wizard Armor
Any idea as to why the wizard armor is so much more difficult to obtain than the metal warrior armor? It requires amber which is only found in red shroud. It requires the hunter to be able to weave flax, and a few other things which are substantially more difficult to attain than the metal for the other armor. Is this on purpose or just luck of the draw? Because the mana for me as a wizard right now is unbearable!

I had similar mana issues until I re-specced into Blood Magic and Healer.
With 2 points into healing waters, you'll out heal the hp loss when casting spells and essentially have infinite mana.

Assuming you are referring to the lvl 13 armour sets, all of the sets require linen and dried fur and the mage (Healer, Mage) and warrior (Tank) sets require at least some amber. Just the Adventurer doesn't require amber. Same of the Hunter sets the Marksman is the easiest to craft and needs no amber while the Ranger set needs a bit of amber.

As for the red shroud you have to upgrade your alter for it to turn into blue shroud, unless you mean the red water-like shroud on the ground which you can't remove and have to avoid.

you can find amber out in the desert also in a few places.

And once you upgrade your flame it turns some red shourd into blue so that also can help.

I dont have wizard made yet but I have most of the parts I still need to get the alchemist some of his tools before I can craft it. I keep getting side tracked with... things.

I mean, I found amber outside of red.
Now, compare your difficulty of getting amber, to getting spells for your staff...
Damage is off the charts when using staffs with fire :P
And I guess you haven't tried stunning strong enemies as a tank either.
Getting mana isn't that hard either tbh.

Agreed you can level your spirit stat, there is some foods, rings, and potions.

Also if you spec into battle mage their is a talent that regens mana on wand attacks

Mage in this are not ment to spam staff spells and really its hard to do that many of the times because of the charge up time. So you drop a couple then swap to wand while your mana comes back and you get an opening.

This is most noticeable with some of the boss type fights. The drake fight was kind of a nightmare for me until I got a bit lucky with an acid spray.

but once you can craft mana potions you basicly have unlimit mana when you need it.

flax is easy. find flax, make seeds, plant flax. infinte flax. armber is easy too theres a node right next to the north westernish spire on a cliff.

honestly of youre going mage just worry about helm and gloves. theyre the only things that effect mage damage. get the "heavy" armor with phys def. mage gear has basically no phy def when most things that hurt are phys damage and the tiny amount of mana and regen are pointless if youre getting 1 shot because staffs cant block.

also max mana is pointless mana regen is what matters. theres a quest that gives -20 max mana and +20 mana regen. you can get 2 and have 40 mana regen then get the root staff with up to 4mana regen and 5% mana steal. with about 50 mana regen(food and gloom boots give 4) and the 5% mana steal you can free cast eternal fireballs and acid sprays forever.

then go into the tank tree for the extra damage reductions and earth aura. then you can rock earth/water/fire auras be tanky as ♥♥♥♥ and have infinite spells and heals. then just slap a wand and shield on when you need to block.

point is mage armor is a trap and makes you weak.
