just remember to eat food can give you 80% hp buff in early game, but after all you just shouldn't get hit, because even if you are wearing maxed level gear, monster can still easily kill you with 2 hit...

If there is anything in the crafting list on a bench or the craftsman with an exclamation mark then make sure you craft that as it might unlock other recipes which in turn triggers quests.
Read all the lore books (red glow) in the wilds you can and some of those can point you to things.
I wouldn't be overly worried about armour. If you stop to farm mats for a full set you will probably be ready for the next set before you manage it. I found most armour stats to be pretty undewhelming and I think I went from the lvl 13 gear to the level 23 gear in one step. It just doesn't do much and the improvements each tier are very small. Just try not to get hit, use food and the rest buff and hope for drops. Always try to keep your weapons top notch but armour just isn't that big a thing. It helps for sure but not as much as I feel it should.
