If the save already tracks date and time, which we can see on world selection, then putting a half hour or hour timer on the chests and linking it to your game time.
I can already see the complaints from the community if they do that though. It can be hard to get the specific weapon or armor you want already.
"I got a legendary through luck-rolls. Others shouldn't be able to get them by grinding the same luck-rolls!"
That beeing said, crafting gives you slightly weaker armor and massive worse weapons.
But hey maybe it's me because i really like the whole Survial Lite approach of the game.
The game in it's current state is clearly made with multiplayer as an after thought, with crafters being locked to a single spawn location meaning things are clearly meant to be single player or co-op shared base.
Just my assumptions here, but I guess you want to play this like ARK style multiplayer and even when PvP is turned off you have an inherent urge to be competitive and combative with other people, so in this single player / co-op focused game, you wanted to get a sense of superiority from having the best armour / weapon in your group, but have gotten angry that the loot chests respawn, meaning everyone could get the same items as you.
Obviously I have filled a lot of gaps with my own speculation about your psychology, but I can't see why chests respawning their loot would anger you unless you just desire for someone else not to be able to get it too, it's not like you need multiple copies of the same item, so your main desire is just not wanting others to have it too.
It makes a lot of the crafting pointless.
Without those chest respawning you will have to kill a LOT more enemies for hopefully a weapon to break down but also the small amount of upgrade material they can have.
I gave it a pass and am OK with it now since I'd rather have chests respawn than me having to farm enemies for a weapon drop. Lesser of two evils imo.
This really needs a persistant world, where changes you make stay. (and especially lore related things like the roots you cut down for the story).
So don't loot them more than once. Is it really that difficult?
