Amber?
Anyone know where to find amber at or how the veins spawn?
The only amber node we found was by accident while mining clay. I haven't really noticed it in the larger world en masse like other materials.

Just curious. I've been a good deal over the map and have just gotten to the city. Was wondering what other people have discovered as ways to identify the veins of amber.

And this is a screenshot of the general texture of amber. Lots of crosshatching on it. Otherwise amber just looks like a brown stone, and there are LOTS of brown stones in the shroud.

(PS I hate when steam redoes their interface and things stop working the same).

Big deposits of Amber are only found inside Shroud.

From the Revelwood Spire, you can jump down East, and at the top of the West wall of the Shroud area is a big patch that you can mine down into from the ground up above the Shroud.

If you jump down into the Shroud and go from West to East along the South wall of the Shroud area you will find multiple patches of Amber.

I think I found some amber near the start of the game too when I seek out the remaining shroud roots in Springland, head west from spawn and there is a hidden shroud root area, and after destroying it, note the cave walls, it's the same texture as amber.

EDIT: Nvm wrong cave. They don't appear that early. Must be the other cave to the north west corner of the map.

Northwest of Ancient Spire - Revelwood where the Shroud Root is located (West of Abandoned Hunter Camp). Just before you enter the cave to access the Shroud Root, there is a nice Amber vein at the bottom of the North cliff. I discovered this location earlier today and mined a fair amount of Amber without having to worry about mobs. Just watch your timer while you are in the Shroud.

How did you turn that shroud to be not 'Deadly'?
Because the shroud in my game looks like this:

And I can't even enter it without dying almost instantly.

You have to upgrade your alter's Flame Level. Each upgrade of the flame will turn a red shroud area safe letting you go farther out into the map.

Yeah, got it. I delayed my level 3 upgrade so long that I made it extra difficult to cross, when it didn't need to be. They really need more explanation about that stuff. As half of this game is 'figure it out for yourself' territory. Which don't help much.

I'm sure they'll get there. It's still EA so i'm sure someone sent that feedback to them somewhere. Always good to send them feedback if you have an idea.

Inside Caves with a Shroud Root, looks like yellow Stone.

It may be "Early Access". But it is, and was released to the public for purchase; Thus it is a released game. Saying that "It's Early Access" is nothing more than an excuse, but it's not a reason.

Yikes...

If you aren't a fan of Early Access titles or companies that use the program to develop a game over time then you probably shouldn't interact with them. Early Access is a completely viable idea and your take there is absolutely wrong. That said this has gotten off topic of the OP.

If my "take" is completely wrong; Then why is it that the Steam 'Early Access Guidelines' somewhat fall in line with it?

As per the guidelines:
"You should not use Early Access solely to fund development. If you are counting on selling a specific number of units to complete your game, then you need to think carefully about what it would mean for you or your team if you don't sell that many units. Are you willing to continue developing the game without any sales?"

And

"Early Access titles must deliver a playable game or usable software to the customer at the time of purchase,"

Direct lines copied from the 'Early Access' guidelines found here:
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/earlyaccess

'Playable' and/or 'Usable' includes explaining how things work. Like the fact that without upgrades to that flame level, one is blocked from going into the fog/shroud in certain areas. To get certain materials, like amber.

Off topic? Not so much. As it is completely relevant.
