the pulling materials from storage's is in the game, I think it's silly that it's not incorporated with them.
Or give us signs....
It doesn't work on kilns/forge/etc.. because those aren't crafting, they're processing. And they can only process what's in their inventory.
They can't safely be automated from storage because they'd chew through all the required mats in storage indiscriminately.
They'll have to redesign them to only process a set amount before they can consider auto-pulling from storage.

Perhaps, you could take your own advice and use your brain. The game is primarily multiplayer, and the world doesn't need to submit to your very limited view of building.
