I have a question about armor/weapon progression

Please, I´m begging on my knees here...

Can SOMEONE tell me how to smelt copper? I have been running around with an epic executioner axe since lvl 3 something and using the rising fighter armor. I am around 11 now. I have found clay and copper ore, I have built the kiln and rescued all survivors. I don´t have any blacksmith quests to do and the only quest I have related to the blacksmith is a carpenter side quest but it´s past red mist so I can´t go there.

You need to build a smelter at first. And for this the blacksmith needs a crucible. I don't know at which point he'll give you this quest, but when I remember right it was connected to the carpenter quests.
But you should find better weapons just by exploring.

That´s the thing, I have found a few weapons but they have been the same as the axe basically. I could upgrade them a bit but they have been white and the axe is purple so yeah...
I am still clueless then, as I said I can´t get past that red shroud, maybe there is a way over somewhere. Will check that next time, my brain is mush right now

If the shroud is red, upgrade your flame alter and then you can go deeper into the shroud, should turn the red shroud into normal shroud. Also, after relogging all the chests you've looted previously will have more loot, reloot them, you might get a higher level weapon.

Upgrading my altar helped with a part of my question. But the copper thing I have finally found out now. I went to unlock fast travel in the ancient spire in Revelwood and inside there I looted a copper ingot. That unlocked the quest for me... So there you have it. Thanks for the replies all!
