Ranged Chests?

I recently played Grounded, where I was able to access all of my chests directly from the workbench. Does this game allow the same thing?

I just tried to build something, and it said I had no stone, yet the chest next to me was full of stone. Do I have to take the stone from the chest before the game recognises that I have it?

Magic chests do exactly that. Regular chests do not.

you can up grade your normal chest to magic chest which let you share the material while crafting inside the build area, but you need to unlock the npc to do it

yeah you just need to play a bit more and unlock magic chests. It's a design choice I disagree with as once you have magic chests, there's no reason to use non-magic chests.

If it's gotta be this way, then I'd like to see the option to upgrade a chest that's already in use to a magic chest. It's tedious to take everything out of a chest so you can take it to the carpenter and upgrade it, then put it back down and refill it.
