Can't always get what you want.

If only they would add torches to the game, and then allow you to put them down so you can see while you fight or search a room.

That may be too immersive for this game though.

It looks like they may be doing this already. From the suggestion page under lanterns. https://enshrouded.featureupvote.com/

Adding a section to the character inventory for carrying a lighting accessory would be a great feature. This way, players wouldn't have to constantly equip a torch. Additionally, including the option to turn the lantern on and off, and perhaps requiring some type of fuel for it to be used, would be great. It would also be interesting if the lantern had an impact on stealth.

What makes you say they may be doing this?
There are barely any votes on those lantern suggestions.

You might be surprised to know but a good portion of the player base likes the idea of putting the torch down to make a light source for combat. It's a mechanic rarely seen, and adds to the immersion.

It's one of the reasons I bought the game.

A popular solution in other games is to attach a lantern to your belt or something similar, as well as holding a torch in your second hand.

Yeah it's annoying but for now I try to take note of any beds where I am fighting as you can use those to speed stuff up. Sure it's not common exactly but it can help. Also carry a flame altar on you at all times as stones aren't always easy to find and you can often just port home for a nap.
I want a light source a little less bothersome than the ways we have now. In some games you can slightly tweak your gamma setting to a happy compromise between night and day and see quite well in both but this game is so overpoweringly bright and/or foggy during the day that a little more gamma would be like staring into the sun. I actually have things set to dull the brightness down right now but I am unsure what I tweaked to get it better and it isn't a great help at night.

You can drop your torch.

Honestly it's part of the immersion and difficulty, it would be off-putting if the nights were too bright

i explore at night the same way i don't really see the problem with the night being dark you even see better some things at night like books and ennemy camps
and there is no real night in the shroud

Night. Underground. In the Shroud. There are lots of places that are dark, and a light source is nice to have.

You can go the their suggestions page and upvote the 'torch in off hand' thread. You are not the first, or only person who wants this, it's pretty high on the list. I don't have that link handy.

But I'd like to see any variety of light sources. Flaming swords, or miners headlamps, or 'light' spells to make your staff glow. Or a ring of infravision. Whatever. It all adds fun and bling.

The trolls here on the Steam threads are just doing what trolls do. Ignore them.

This game is in development and probably wil have changed each time we login. For the good or maybe even stuff has been taken out. Who knows?
In this case there is a valid comment with the licht IF you are on a location where there is no other light source like the shroud or mushrooms that give light etc. Probably food for thought for the dev's.

ps, can we stop creating lengtly discussions that are totaly not relevent to the mather at hand? Flaming eachother is so easy and also so not constructive.

i like how dark it gets at night, whole different game.
a lamp you can attach to your belt later on would be fun tho.

Put down a flame altar, fast travel home, sleep, fast travel back to the flame alter, dismantle the flame alter, go on with your journey.

That's what I've started doing. I usually carry a stack of 5 on me anyway so I can easily refresh the "rested" buff as I'm out exploring. Can be pretty convenient finding a 15+ comfort area in a POI or structure right before my buff expires.

That's the thing though. This game is clearly balanced around night being an issue.
Don't like it? Sleep or ragequit. Don't force the developers to make the game easier than what it already is. Right now, they need to increase difficulty a lot because it's baby-level already.

So, disagreeing with you, automatically makes everyone a "troll"?
The whole purpose of the game clearly, is that difficulty is increased during night.
Removing the "problem" to equip a light source eliminates that difficulty.
As if the game isn't already easy as it is :P
You can spam through the whole game without any struggles...
