The usual high GPU usage thread
RTX 4070 Ti, i7 12700k, 32 GB DDR5 RAM, an ancient PC.

Game starts at 144 fps, and then it goes down to 90-100 fps in the open world, and then when the night arrives it goes down below 60 fps, and GPU temperature goes above 70 degrees.

PC is dust free, no virus, latest Nvidia drivers...

Nothing wrong with " high " graphics card usage...is where you want your graphics card to be all the time unless is a 2d old game.
99% all the time.

Ok, but why do my fps go below 60 fps? The game can't be that demanding on hardware, it looks like poop.

1. 99% graphics card usage is normal. Temperature below 80 degrees is also normal.
2. This game is absolutely insane GPU-wise. You can modify the entire world, so this is already really good.
3. The decent GPU temps + night time lag implies that it's probably your CPU that is struggling, probably because of AI pathfinding or skeletal mesh transform costs. There are probably more AI walking around at night.

My i7 12700k is bottlenecking my RTX 4070 Ti? Wow.

They have to change recommended settings on the store.

The " graphics " have nothing to do with how a game run, the game is still being optimized and when it drops is because of cpu, especially in voxel games with high rest textures, that can't send information fast enought to the gpu.
It's normal.

It's not a coulisse game. You can build and dig everywhere, just like minecraft. That takes a toll on the performance.

Remember this. It's one of the VERY FEW entirely VOXEL made games out there that look this good. You're not going to get 200+ fps, ever. Even 4090's are in the 90 to mid 100's.

Your game goes to 60 FPS during the day to night transition because it is a transition. You're rendering/processing ALL the lighting changes, the shadows etc, once it turns night, the problem goes away, so it is is like 10-15 seconds of lower FPS. It's an EA game, it will be optimized later down the line.

technically not true. I can get over 200fps in the open world with a 4090 on low settings at 1080p

LOL omg shut up.

I did test though honestly.

3090 here, and at 3440x1440 on balanced low or low entirely, its around 180-220fps every where.

My typical is 60-70s, plus the usual bug where it dips a while into the 40's until you change the texture resolution to low then back to high again and its fixed.

Oh, really? It's just temporary?

No. The game resets after every load or time based so that is nonsense

No offense, but only half of your CPU is even usable for a game. Which is just fine when most games are single-core only. However voxel games that use multiple cores like this that will kick your ass.

EDIT: Will note that I am running the following.
R9 3900X
32GB RAM 3200MHz
RX 6800XT (Roughly equivalent to a 4070 in its current state)
Resolution 2560x1440
Average FPS uncapped is 253.

I'm really tempted to see how well it rolls in 7680x1440
Edit: got a very stable 50FPS using all three screens. Too bad the UI elements are on the outsides.

yes and no. Depending on resolution that i7 may not be able to supply enough for the 4070ti to crunch. If that is the case it is actually your 4070ti holding it back.

Think freeways. Yes you can drive over 100 mph on them but if they are not well maintained or you have the wrong tires, the resolution and fidelity in this example, that will be a very punishing attempt at 100+ mph.

I have a 4070ti as well and rarely get below 100fps at 1440p fully cranked.

Meh, the i7 12700k is not enought for his 4070 ti like my ryzen 7 5800x is not enought for my 7900xtx, for both of us we get something like 20-25% bottleneck at 1440p ( i play at 3440x1440 and still get a bottleneck )
Buying a proper cpu for our gpu's should not give us a big difference in performace anyway.
