server is online all the time
You log in the next Day and all Quests and Story is done.
If you have 16 gigs of ram and the game takes 8 gigs of that, windows takes up 8 of that as well. Do you have enough resources to host a server?
Its cheaper to rent a server than build another PC just to power and run it server wise. How many gamers have 32+ gigs of ram? Ideally, you want the server and clients separate.
2. Because of #1, your friends will be able to play even if you cannot.
3. Hosting a server usually uses up a lot of resources especially if you are also playing while hosting.
It's why, when we were still playing, I got a second ps4 for Ark Survival. I would play on mine, my sister was on hers, her hubby was on his, and our 4th one hosted the server. That way, we could all have access to play even if one of us were not playing or even present at the time
I pay for a dedicated server for several reasons:
1) If I host it on my own machine, then my PC has to be on and running 24/7.
2) The host will have a performance loss if they're hosting and playing at the same time.
3) The friends and family I play with live far apart (different countries, infact - Brazil and USA), so hosting a server somewhere in between (in this case, Miami via Nitrado) allows us to play together without lag.
4) It's only $6 for a 4 slot server per month. How is that NOT worth it?
What does your opinion have to do with the reason for renting a server? Don't be dense, the guy answered the question. Rented server that's always up and not dependent on the host being available. Get it? Good.
But who knows if we will play for another month or 3 months.. so i don't want to pay to host the game with some service. I don't even want to force my brother to host the game on his computer 24/7.
So I have been trying to sync his world save from his computer to mine. Then from mine to his with this program. And that works just fine so anytime we play and he hosts, i see the change come to my computer.
BUT when i try to host that game world file I do not see any existing world to load, I can only make a new world. Does anybody else know what other files I need to grab from my brothers computer to be able to host?
Who cares? You can take your character to any other server and use the same one, all your gear and inventory will transfer over. Hell if you want a decent weapon for early game i might be a good idea to go on a server, get someone to craft you something thats not so op the game is easy as piss but something thats better than the starting weapons so you have a good start and dont have to depend on the games RNG.
Honestly, I cant help you but if I were you i'd just ask him for the files for his world? That might work or just pay for a server for like $5-$6, if the kids wanna play for longer than a month keep it going if not cancel it and if theyre flakey about it but say they wanna keep playing have them start a new world in locally hosted multiplayer.
Those might be your only options. Best of luck, pa.
Only end games are suitable for hosting.
Or did you read past the line that this is a early acces game and that they are still expanding the playing field?
However, if I pay for a server that's based in the NA. I won't lag since i live in a first world EU country, then they can play whenever they want, and I can play with them and even when I go to sleep they can continue to play.
and even if the game is only one set world, some of us like to relax and build houses without progressing the game until the whole squad is on and ready to explore.
