Its one thing to have tombstones. Buts its best to not assume it stays forever and treat it like its storage.
Or we need a system where you can hide some markes, so you see only the one you need at this moment.
I know one time I died where my tombstone was on this tiny ledge at the bottom of a huge cliff directly over a large field of lava. I died several times trying to fly down to it. Then I got the bright idea to stand directly above my tombstone on the top of the cliff and use my pickaxe to dig down to my tombstone. It worked, but the entire process took over two hours from the time I originally died. In another example, I died and logged off right away to eat dinner, logged back on and tombstone was gone. Only a few minutes of game time had passed. Other times I have logged off and back on, and my tombstone was still there.
It may be that there is a timer that starts once you are a certain distance away from your tombstone.
Whatever the case, if there is a timer, it would be nice if there was a timer in the character panel counting down to let us know time remaining. Right now it seems random even if it is not.
These are only assumptions, but could describe both scenarios you experienced.
The information is not provided, you need to go to discord and talk to the managing team for enshrouded or take part in their questionnaire when it is available. Lots of information. Just know you have 30 minutes to get back to your "death totem" before it's gone. Make wise choices and no one thinks about it until after. You get far enough, know enough, out of the shroud, well, go back to base having left an alter at the entrance, drop off your stuff. come back and run it quick to the point you left and then move forward. You'll be fine. If you have any questions, join discord and ask. Someone will get back to you. Don't give up, it's too good to stop, but don't rush either. It's not about the best gear and getting through it quickly. It's about the adventure and seeing everything the Dev's have worked so hard to show you for you to see. It's amazing if you take the time and you should not be in the hallows at level 20 enemies when you are lower then that and complain. There is so much to do to get to max level and the proper skills and then you just work your way through it. It won't be easy alone, but it can be done.
