Crafting and building gate keeping.

I love the game adventuring and it is fun to progress and learn more crafting recipies as i adventure more.

but also i dont like feeling locked out being able to create and build until i unlock more of the game.

I haven't really built a second base because i don't want to work on anything new till i know i have everything to work with.

Same. I just made a square rough flintstone box and called it a day. Need pretty blocks to start building. Furniture too.

I built my whole base underground, the entrance is through a small little mountain hill hobbit style.

Unlocking all building materials is the reward for proper exploration and doing quests. Has nothing to do with gatekeeping. How will you (in a roleplay perspective) know how to craft a sandstone city wall if you have never seen one - aka you visited the desert?!

So go there, find the quest or the chest to unlock the blueprints.

A good way to combat this is to have a tool that replaces materials, so you can select the new material you want more and swap them out. That way you can build without waiting for the better parts
