Best Base Locations?
I've gone out and explored the world a bit, and now I want to make a more permanent base, but I'm unsure what makes sense. I'm tempted to spend the effort to climb/mine up a mountain and put a base at the top to get another "fast travel" spot. But I think I want something more useful. Eventually I'm going to test the limits of how high you can build a tower, in order to build my own "fast travel" towers with some of the altars.

I'm getting close to the capital city with quests, maybe I should wait until I get past that area first.

Until then, does anyone have any base locations they like or find useful, and why?

I have explored a while to find the perfect spot for my building project. I can definitely recommend THIS spot over here: https://i.imgur.com/CajTiYh.jpg

You can find it in my latest video too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwZU95AQd3g

Another great spot is over here: https://i.imgur.com/pBJr4Vw.jpg but to get up that hill for the first time is a real struggle and you need the glider passive skill to float up. But if you are on the top, there is an abandoned / empty black castle structure you could use. Its also a perfect starting point for gliding as its so high up.

Hey that's where mine is, though a little to the West on the flat part.

Hahahh damn. Unfortunately i can't check right now as i'm heading off to work.. But i'm 99% sure that we built in the same place :D

Built on the top of the mountain and for a while i was a bit let down that i couldn't build a stairway all the way down, but by the last upgrade i noticed that i could at least get down to the plateau for some farming

I went to that first spot and... I think I like it. I certainly won't regret making a base there even if I move to a later base. It has everything I want except for lots of resources. It's high up and in a beautiful area.

I think another base I want to put down is at some desert area. I had to do a lot of mining/climbing up a mountain to get there, but I forgot how easy it was to put down an altar, so I didn't.

I'll check out the black castle structure later. I haven't explored there yet.
Thanks!

Thanks for your kind words! In fact i did exactly that - i shaped the building around that mountain.

I think a lot of us built in that same spot. Though mine is near the middle of the mountain and inside of it and then just cleared out the inside. Placed a secret door and covered up the outside with terrain blocks. The only drawback of the location though is it has too much echo sound from all the rock.

I'm boring. I just placed the flame altar on the highest point there and built a mansion around it. You... can't access it normally.
Eventually I'll add some hook points.

i know you said your looking for something with height but you might want to check out the area where the red arrow is north of the Lowlands Spire...with 2 alters you get a massive build area with 2 separate location to build on and restore the one im at now is right next to a cliff face that you can glide from...depending how high you can go it would be great location to build an entire city and be able to glide anywhere on the map ( almost ) instead of a village

we repurposed the blacksmiths daughters compound nice little compound.

I took over and fixed up the Blue Goblet (or whatever it's called). The location is good for gathering various beets, flowers, ores, and clays. The inn itself is pretty huge, and I've been able to easily fit all my crafts people and a few villagers in as well, though I did have to convert some open space into rooms. It doesn't take too much to fix up, and it looks pretty cool, with lots of decorations and furnishings included.

Someday I'd like to take over a proper town and fix it up, but that's a lot more work than I'm willing to commit to at this point in the game.
For anyone rebuilding old places use the new tool, the one made by the hollow halls NPC, it can make it old or new again, saves a lot of time let me tell you, before i had to just build blocks on top of the decrepit ones to get rid of those jagged edges, now i just use that tool.

I made a tower base on the same area TheOrigin did, really nice view up there.
