also there is a reason because modern games do that anymore, - it is no fun to play.
Super Mario Bros = survival game confirmed
Don't know where's the previously "definition" of "survival game/genre" is from, but i think the same way.
For me survival is you need food and water to not starve. Everything you do costs either food or water or both, no matter e.g. you're just building.
Enshrouded doesn't have anything like this. I like the game anyway so far. It's a good rpg/adventure game, but it's not a survival game.
Basically it's like Diablo (2) from 3rd person with more story and crafting. Endless looting for better gear, in opposite to Diablo even for crafting and the environment isn't hostile at all, as long you don't afk in the middle of nowhere or even in a dungeon.
But nowadays it seems to become even more common, that every game where you can die is called "survival".
It literally doesnt matter if you choose to qualify games as the survival genre based on your own thoughts and feelings.
You dont have to actually starve to death in a game for it to be in the survival genre.
You have never played diablo2, or any diablo game, to make such a ridiculous argument
This game? It's not really a survival game at heart. It has elements for progression and such but no, you won't starve, die of starvation, get diseases, wounds, sleep depriviation, all that jazz. In this game, much like Valheim, eating/drinking/sleeping provide buffs. Necessary to live since those buffs give you stat padding to help survive in combat, but not required and you won't die by simply not eating.
This game is basically a much more advanced version of their other game, Portal Knights. Fun and all that, but no it's not real survival. More like an action RPG (ARPG).
They don't NEED to do that. You just want that. There's a place to put in your suggestions and the community can upvote the ones they like. I'd recommend doing that, or checking the list and upvoting the elements you want to see in the game--related to this thread, the survival elements.
This game is a much more advanced Portal Knights--the previous game from the developer. It's fun as well and supports base building, progression and such, but it's not a survival game.
But what? You can probably die?
What makes a survival game survival in your oppinion?
Do you even have an own opinion, because you are just ranting but not saying anything.
Luckily Diablo (2) didn't have a playtime counter. It would propably give me depressions seeing how many thousands of hours i spent into this game. :D
I would consider this game as survival 'lite', which is not a bad thing.
For many what adds more survival to their survival games are things like substantial risk vs. reward mechanics, limited resources and ever present threats, be those environmental (like weather) or mob driven (not the mere presence of mobs, but the chance those mobs will take the offensive against you and not merely wait for you to come to them).
When things like shelter become a necessity for survival as opposed to a nicety. When hard choices have to be made on what to craft or build because resources are limited. When there has to be forward planning done on the part of the player to ensure they have what they need to sustain themselves in the future. When heading into a new biome/area requires some focused preparation if just because of potential environmental threats.
Do I have the proper clothing for the mountains? Do I have enough food and ammunition for this outing? If I can't get back to my base by nightfall, or if there is a storm, am I prepared? Is it worth fighting that mob or is retreat the better option. Am I ready to venture into the next valley, over that ocean or across that mountain range and into the unknown?
Impactful player choices.
And it is the weight of those choices that, at least for me, determines where a survival game falls on the survival continuum.
Yes genius, no one said you cant decide to rewrite what makes up a genre in your head.
You are free to google what the survival definition is, we dont have to guess, or in your case make it up as you go to gatekeep.
I dont remotely believe you about diablo when you so idiotically compared this game to d2,lol
Frankly, no one whos ever played diablo 2 or other diablos would believe you had with that comment.
I've seen 5 year old that are even more capable of discussing. And even more 5 old, not beeing able to discuss at all but just ranting if someone says anything what is not their exact point of view.
I have no need to deal with such toxic people.
Dude, its not toxic to point out that your personal definition of something, is not the actual definition.
Just saying.
But goodbye
