My best is the iron pickaxe. Maybe there will be better with future updates.

Scrappy pickaxe is the second worst pickaxe, ahead of the stone pickaxe.

Once you find copper you can craft a copper pickaxe

Find tin, combine it with copper to get bronze bars and you can craft a better bronze pickaxe.

Iron is the high tier pick.

I'm positive iron is the best you can get currently with copper being 2nd, scrappy 3rd, and stone worst. Rumors that this block/piece of the map we got for early access is 1/8th of the map size that is planned for actual end game.

Bronze is 2nd to best, then copper yeah
