Getting around system requirements.
It turns out I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050. Slightly lower than the required 1060.

The effect of this is that the game will load, I can create a character. However, when I attempt to start a world, I get an instant crash.

Question: Is there anything I can do in the game setting or a config file to turn off some effects and allow the game to run?

Comment: I watched a few hours of game demo before purchase. It looks like a fun game, but I didn't even glance at the system requirements because this doesn't look anything as sophisticated as a Cyberpunk 2077 or Witcher 3, both of which I can run easily at fairly high graphics settings.

1050 is 8 year old ancient bargain bin bottom of the pile garbage that barely could run anything well even when it was released. Grab a used 1070 or 2070 for what you payed for that card new.

as all NVIDIA cards have been sense I can remember, anything under a xx60 is not meant for gaming at all. let alone something pushing 10 years old tech.
