Is there any reason NOT to use a shield?

I'm playing an archer but most of the time I'm walking around with a shield and an axe. Feels weird to me... no dual wielding? Is there no stamina penalty for carrying a shield?

I prefer the high damage of two-handed weapons. I made a jump attack build that does big AOE damage and can close distance really fast with a roll attack. I can block/parry with it as well, just takes more stamina and a little bit of health.

Well that's my response to "Is there any reason NOT to use a shield?"...

I always carry a 2h, 1h + shield, and a bow as a ranger. the 2h is just to bust down doors faster, the 1h + shield is in case i run out of ammo or have to clear out a bunch of smaller lower health enemies. Shields are also a great way to stun enemies if you time your block properly, it generates so much more stun on the enemy than using a 2h.

ok... so no. Shields a must have unless you're using a 2h. No sense in just 1H sword with no offhand I guess. Bizarre.

There is a typ of "magic shield" (forgot the name) that isn't visible like the normal shield if you have your 1h selected. And no there is no dual wielding.

Yeah it's under 'wards' instead of shields. Looks like a kind of bracelet.

Has nothing to do with your post, but i'm incredibly sad there's no dual wielding and no daggers. Let me live my fantasy rogue dream :( there's a stealth skill tree, but no daggers or proper sneaking/stealth damage systems and mechanics.
