yeah like pizzabandit said; just place another flame inside the zone as centered as possible the extinguish the first. everything will remain inside the new zone
If you upgraded the altar level with shroud cores, you will lose those when dismantling the old altar. The alchemist can make more for you, from spores and shroud liquid. Like 10 of each, so super cheap.
If you don't upgrade the new altar, you'll have a smaller building footprint (40 x 40 for a level 1 altar). If you'd already expanded past 40 x 40, you could lose anything outside the boundary unless you upgrade before you log off.
