Need Help With Updating
I don't know why, but every time I have to patch Enshrouded, my Steam fluctuates in estimated time between 20 min and ONE YEAR. Please don't say it's my "crap" computer or internet, because it's NOT. I even stopped the download to check that with other games that needed updating and they FLEW through their downloads in a matter of <5 min. I updated 3 other games with no problem whatsoever. So I tried to update Enshrouded again, and once again, it would start saying it would take 20 minutes or so, and then it's back to bouncing around to days... weeks.... months... hours... days... minutes... months. This happened yesterday as well and it took me FOUR HOURS to finally get updated.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Again, don't just say it's a "crap" computer/internet. I've already explained why that can't be the issue since other games are updating just fine.

I'm having the same issue, under 1 meg download and it can' t get past 17% after 20 minutes but ANY OTHER update is super fast. This game is already leaving a sour taste in my mouth

Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm glad someone else is having this issue. Because whenever I mention it in Discord, all I get is "you must have a crap computer". I have an Acer Predator Gen 5. It's not the greatest gaming computer, but it's certainly not "crap". I have all games installed on a 4 TB external hard drive. I'm not sure what is causing the issue... if it's Steam, or the Game and how it updates, or a combination of both. I expect "issues" in Early Access games (almost every game I own is/was EA - so I'm used to them)... and I'm not really complaining about this, but if it's an issue the Devs need to look at, then that is what EA is all about. So rather than discard my (and your) issue, I hope they can look into it.

So far, I have cleared the Steam DL cache, deleted all temp files on my computer, tried restarting Steam and my computer multiple times... nothing has effected how slow the update progresses. I'm open to suggestions.

300Kb download but it is updating 30Gb of game file on your drive, depending on SSD or HDD will make a big difference as also will space available on the drive and its actual read/write speed. This last hotfix took 3 minutes total on my standard SSD ie not a faster NVME.

It's actually your computer and you stated it in your post with this statement. "Games installed on 4TB External Hard drive."

To all of you that have this issue, its time to move on from an actual hard drive. Get an SSD or an M.2.

The reason the estimated time is fluxing like that is because of the actual hard drive having to spin and read and wind and wind and wind. Baby i'm down to my last tear drop this timeeeee oh wait.

i am using m.2 drive and still its about 16 mins total before i can run the game

More and more games are requiring you to verify all files when updating, this is fixed very easily with a M.2. tho it is still an expensive fix it will pay for itself with time saved.

Same. 7950x, 3090ti, Samsung Evo m. 2 and it took an hour for today's update to finish.
It seems to be a combination of a steam and game issue. I for one have no issues with the downloads. But the person I play this game with does. She has a far better computer than i do as well. So maybe its something strangely specific about certain hardware? I have found that if you keep exiting and starting steam back up you can get moments of your usual update speed. really annoying but its a fine workaround for now.

I have to patch every single day for 14-17 minutes on a SSD. EVERY SINGLE DAY. Getting real tired of it
