The dig spot remains though. Dig until you are about to die from shroud then continue digging. Alternatively, there is no reason to not just dig till you die. Your corpse doesn't disappear. I spent like 45 minutes getting my body back when I first started the game, because at night I wandered into a fort with a lot of level 3's that 1 shot me if I didn't have wolf meat in my system haha. I know the pain, but there are ways around eveyrthing, get creative, it's a voxel world!
Or, depending how far into the game you are, increase your flame rank or drink a shroud potion for an extra 2 minutes.
Critical thinking is excellent for problem solving.
I agree that it is frustrating, but if you haven't used your head in an attempt to work around the thing killing you... that is on you.
Or you could just use bombs
All I do is jump to minimize damage instead of standing in it
I haven't gotten to this point in the game yet... but I have learned something when exploring into risky places. Put all your important items in the HOTBAR. Those items will not drop when you die. I only leave mats and crap I've collected in my actual inventory. Any weapons I pick up along the way, if I have no use for them, I immediately salvage them.
I understand the frustration (and when I get to that point in the game, I may get frustrated too lol)... but to me, lava in any game should be basically instant death unless there is some kind of fire damage reduction gear/potion. Plus I look at it this way... if other players have managed to do it, so can I -- I may just need to change HOW or when I'm attempting to do "the impossible".
The OP is not talking about lava. You do not onyl take 5 dmg/tic in the red stuff lol.
Other areas, it glows or is visible from a fair distance.
An aura around where it is located that drains your shroud quickly (but not instantly) and with an accompanying visual effect would be great.
I have no issue with it mechanically, it's obviously meant to gate you from areas you shouldn't be going to at that point, it's just too easy to stumble into it in some places, and I can't imagine that was the intention. It should be a visible threat. I suspect the areas where you can just walk into it unknown aren't intended.
