If you have a persistent server it’s very different depending on how often that server resets. If you destroy shroud roots the shroud is gone for a long time. I like it this way because the game is five times harder with the shroud and deadly shroud. Also leveling up what they sometimes call the passage level I think must have an effect on keeping the shroud at bay without needing to kill shroud roots.
Actually I’m starting to think that it’s mostly the passage level at your home base that really determines how far you can explore. But I also think that the persistent server keeps things from respawning as often as a single player game where each time you get on everything is reset.
What Sparrow said basically.
BUT.........if you kill it on your server, and your friend comes in that server that hasn't killed the shroud root you killed. Does he miss out on that skill point? Or does it show up to him as a ? still? Something to think about.
It is early access, and thats why people use the forum so the devs can take notes. You guys need to stop saying "its early access". Everyone knows, and the more comments about gameplay, the more input the devs have. That's the whole point. Guiding the game dev.
I can confirm that you do not get repeat skill points for clearing roots you've previously destroyed.
Yeah, I´m playing with a friend on a dedicated server, I killied one of the shroud roots alone and when it respawn the friend killed it and got his skillpoint.
Right now, anything you change that isn't contained inside of a flame altar zone will revert after a set amount of time, or when you reload the game. If it didn't, you would eventually run out of resources as well, since ores would never respawn once mined, and sparks from the various existing altars would run out as well.
I don't think this game was meant to be 'finished'. I doubt the devs meant the game to be played once then just be over. You're trying to fight back against the Shroud, yes, but... look at the world for a moment. It exists randomly underground and can emerge pretty much anywhere. The areas on the surface are the size of actual oceans. And then there is the 'red ground' which is the same Shroud mold stuff, but will instantly kill you that you *can't* clean up, even if you were hardcore enough to mine out every ounce of the stuff you COULD mine out to clear it... which would probably take you years of real time.
Even if you take out every Shroud Root on the map, the existing Shroud would remain, and it's a fungus, so it makes sense that more Roots would grow, whether in the same spots or different places.
The transient nature of the game is more meant to give you infinite resources to collect for your base building. Anything inside the zone of your flame altar's AoE stays the way you make it, allowing for more permanent changes.
I could see stopping playing if taking out a Shroud Root actually reduced the Shroud in large amounts other than in it's immediate vicinity, but as it is, the Roots are just there for skill points; hit them once and move on.
I feel like at some point they should make it so removing a shroud root, removes the surrounding shroud for good. The whole objective is to clear the world of this shroud, right? I dunno...It's just not a pretty game to exist in when its just shroud covering all the good views =\
