BUT so far, I have seen reasons to build bases.
*First you touched upon, NPC's having a place to store them and any crafting benches is a good idea.
*Farming, its actually pretty useful later on to get large amounts of potion materials or linen quickly.
*Your own custom teleport points. Like FR even if you dont build a base just plonking down a fire to get a teleport point isn't bad.
*Storage. yeah this speaks for itself, Im not sure about you but I like having space in my inventory, I will turn my base into a small black hole with the density of the items that I pick up.
*comfort, if your all about efficiency then your basically giving up a free stamina buff, which stamina is a pain in the A**
But with all of those said, you can pile boxes up in a corner, and all the other things you can just make a quick 3x3 for the npc's it is really just for fun, like every other survival game with building mechanics.
Some people have had it happen to them .
Don't get me wrong, the game is fun, beautiful and everything. The building system, once you get used to it, is amazing! And I wish I could have had something like this in Sons Of The Forest, Conan, Fallout 76 and/or Valheim. I spent hours to build a base just to realise that it was just for the sake of it. It doesn't impact the game at all.
And it's quite a shame having such a complex, deep, intricate building system for aesthetic purposes only. Such a wasted potential. It basically has the same value of Sea of Thieves's cosmetic sets.
Oh well, perhaps it's just me btw. I thought this game was going to have some sort of base-defence system. I was wrong.
Respectfully disagree.
As an aside, there are some structures (whose architecture bears a striking resemblance to the Ancient Spires) built into mountains that we cannot access yet.
One, I wanna know what's inside, and two, I would love to build in there. (Diggy, diggy hole)
I have many many hours in 7 days to die. and no I would disagree.
