Why should you build a base?
When theres, literrally a massive, pristine super duper tall tower, that the shroud wont touch, without enemies and infinite heat with build in teleporter, 5 minutes from starting location :D

♥♥♥♥ that Free Real estate, let me build a hovel for me and my blacksmith lol

...because it's fun?

So take over the tower and build a base inside it, you're free to do that, and it's awesome. I rarely build my own bases in survival games, I prefer to appropriate ruins and build extensions onto them so I really appreciate the way this game lets you do that

Honestly I feel like building in survival games is 9 times out of 10 for fun. and I spend most of my time building in survival games simply because, fun.

BUT so far, I have seen reasons to build bases.
*First you touched upon, NPC's having a place to store them and any crafting benches is a good idea.
*Farming, its actually pretty useful later on to get large amounts of potion materials or linen quickly.
*Your own custom teleport points. Like FR even if you dont build a base just plonking down a fire to get a teleport point isn't bad.
*Storage. yeah this speaks for itself, Im not sure about you but I like having space in my inventory, I will turn my base into a small black hole with the density of the items that I pick up.
*comfort, if your all about efficiency then your basically giving up a free stamina buff, which stamina is a pain in the A**

But with all of those said, you can pile boxes up in a corner, and all the other things you can just make a quick 3x3 for the npc's it is really just for fun, like every other survival game with building mechanics.

I would trade all the building for the basic ability to have premade bases that I just add a population to and spend most of my time instead on engaging story, quest and drops while being able to bring friends on raids and dungeons. Building has really became a nuisance in games lately. It's fine to have, but when it can take up a majority of the game that leads to less engaging content, it's a stupid move.

I dug a hole gave it a door and flooring that’s it, game registers it has a closed home base. Winning! I wil give it a sky light soon just to know the time of day/night.

I meant purely from a immersive point of view. I actually quite love building bases :P But it feels weird in this game, that theres functionel buildings and items (bowls, plates, furniture), that you can destroy for resourcest to build your own...plates, bowls and furniture

Careful on tower that it dosent reset and wipes all your items .
Some people have had it happen to them .

I started to play Enshrouded online with my friends two days ago and at the end of the day I was asking the same question.

Don't get me wrong, the game is fun, beautiful and everything. The building system, once you get used to it, is amazing! And I wish I could have had something like this in Sons Of The Forest, Conan, Fallout 76 and/or Valheim. I spent hours to build a base just to realise that it was just for the sake of it. It doesn't impact the game at all.

And it's quite a shame having such a complex, deep, intricate building system for aesthetic purposes only. Such a wasted potential. It basically has the same value of Sea of Thieves's cosmetic sets.

Oh well, perhaps it's just me btw. I thought this game was going to have some sort of base-defence system. I was wrong. :steamsad:

7 days to Die does base building correctly... you have something to worry about on the horizon and base building is a means of survival. If you guys have not checked out 7 Days to Die then go take a look.... hands down the best survival game out there.

I would like preset bases that you could exchange resources for. I suck at building. Never get my walls even and for some reason I can’t even make a door that works lol.

Respectfully disagree.

As an aside, there are some structures (whose architecture bears a striking resemblance to the Ancient Spires) built into mountains that we cannot access yet.

One, I wanna know what's inside, and two, I would love to build in there. (Diggy, diggy hole)

With a sufficiently upgraded altar you can take over a whole settlement, clean it up, repair the damage and give every NPC their own building. Kind of makes me wish we could restore settlements and repopulate them with ordinary folks.
