Are you not supposed to be able to build in areas with existing buildings?
Our group was playing yesterday and decided to build our first flame altar at Longkeep. We cleared rubble etc, built our work benches, chests, fire places, etc...summoned several NPCs. Upon saving and reloading the entire area was reset except for the flame altar and we lost everything. I made a new world today and put the altar in the same place along with placing a work bench, fireplace, etc in similar places as before and when I saved and reloaded the game everything was reset again. Are you not supposed to build in these existing areas or is this a bug?

Everything in the world resets when you quit and log back in, so no point in making a tunnel/Underground base because you would be sealed in next time you log in lol

Pretty sure things are not supposed to reset within the area of effect of the Flame Altars protection.

I believe named areas reset even inside altar radius

ive built caves under my grounds and right now im working on a kind of "mine of moria" thing just an enormous place built into a mountain. so its likely that the names locations would reset stuff.

Which this is great to find out, i saw a really awesome location because of all the village stuff there and a church looking structure, i thought of maybe building there but decided against it.

I am really hoping that is not the case because if it is...I feel like that should be made explicitly clear to the player

Ok after reading OPs issues i wanted to test this myself. I found a prefab (pretty little 2 story tavern) cleared everything out, spawned in my 5 henchmen, placed a crafting table in the middle and ofc the altar. Everything i did was within the range of building.

I then logged off completly and loaded the game up fresh. Everything i had changed was STILL intact. The Tavern is not in a named area but it is a prefab.

So i suppose this would need more extensive testing or someone from the developers taking a stand on the matter.

I also had this exact issue at Longkeep. During the Demo we could completely restore Ruins, now it seems we can't alter them at all because on log in (even when it's INSIDE the influence of a Flame Altar) it resets it all. I really hope they change that back to how it was in the Demo.

Interesting and unfortunate. I'll have to do some more testing myself when I get on to see if I have the same results in un named prefabs and if other named areas reset despite being within the area of the flame alter or if it is just Longkeep.

it also might be different if its a permanent location that contains enemies, which most named locations do.

So I did a couple more tests on my end... I built in an un-named prefab and all my changes were saved. I also built in a different named place "Woodgard" and it saved my changes as well. So it seems like either it has something to do with Longkeep or something to do with the first Altar maybe. Definitely something funky going on

I built my base in the blacksmiths building in Longkeep and am currently trying to clear the Shroud from the nearby buildings but I think it's impossible. When I log out and back in none of my stuff resets, just the chests, and enemies which aren't close enough to me to agro.

Well, the specific location of Longkeep that I built was within the area those 2 Rats are, so maybe that's it.

I would assume that the named points of interest and encounter areas would reset over time simply to keep the content rolling for multiple players on the same server over time, They really should define those areas as no build areas if that is the case though.
