Proton -- Linux Compatibility?
HI there,

Is there any word from developers if they will work to enhance / squash bugs that cause issues while attempting to play the game via linux through Proton? There's a rather large user base on the SteamDeck and personally i'd like to play this game on my computer which runs an ubuntu based distro with an AMD graphics card.

Proton Experimental has me hard crashing when I attempt to join a game, and the latest Proton GE somewhat works, but only if I set graphics to Balanced mode. Even then it's a bit iffy.

I simply installed and started the game yesterday with proton enabled. So far no issues, except what is already known (e.g. performance really need to be improved).

I'm having the same issue as OP since this morning, but the weird part is that i managed to launch the game normally yesterday. Not sure what changed since, some people have mentioned that you need to use amdvlk but i don't think that's the problem since i already had it up to date. The game just got released tho, so bugs are to be expected even for window users and i'm sure it'll be more stable on proton soon !

Allrigth, since I've read about some issues here myself I think we should clarify some parameters we're talking about.
I just checked, if I start the game today and launch solo, everything's fine. If I join my rented server, black screen. If I enter my server and knowingly enter a wrong password, black screen.
Someone else mentioned in another topic that he also got those black screen problems and that the "workaround" of dropping the password worked for him. Joining a server that hasn't any password is something I haven't tried until now, but would be worth a try in order to track down the issue.

Besides that, as a wild guess: we got 2 hotfixes already. could there be an issue because the servers aren't on the same patch level? Might be worth to check too.

Worked without having anything to do.
Perfs seems to be a bit off at the moment however

works fine here, Arch based here. Initial startup took a bit (pre-compiling shaders) but after that it was absolutely smooth, on Super Ultra Wide both full screen and changed to windowed. I have only played single player so far.

Same problem here on MX Linux, except it crashes my entire login session too

For me it does not start, no crash just nothing ever happends both on proton 8 and experimental.

Got the game running on ArchLinux with Proton 8 with no issues. I will install it on my Steamdeck later, but a friend of mine got it also running on his Steamdeck with no issues.
The only issues i encounter are frequent preshading and some annoying validation checks of the game where it downloads some GB of data.

My issues also made puff after I searched for the server via name, in stead of adding it to steam favorites and try to join that way.
The problems of Raziel I also already noticed. hotfix and 8gb download ^^"

Sad to see, seems like the developer has some work to do here, just decided to check out ahead of time if the game had any issues.
But changing this to work better with Proton will make it perform better under Windows as well.

Having "Reflections" above balanced = hard crash of the driver & entire system as soon as the cutscene starts when starting a world.
Trying to adjust settings = permanently degrades performance until you restart the game.
Zooming out of the map = Performance drain down to like 10 FPS on max zoom.
Game generally seems unstable as hell, as after restarting I tried to run to the brazier thingy outside the starting room and it started to freeze up again, causing the typical driver & system freeze / crash.
