[Answered] Land resets on game reload
So last night I dug out a small hill near my base because it had a Flintstone layer in it. When I opened the game this morning, that hill was reset. I don't mind that all of those resources are now available again, but it seems weird that the land itself is resetting like that.

Does it reset within the flame thing where you can build your base? What if someone dug a big hole/cave to build their base in? Would it reset and cover up all that work?

almost everything will reset that is outside of your base/flame claim area

So the landscape will NOT reset within the boundaries of your base? Including well below it underground?

I'm torn on that. I like respawn of those materials, but it's immersion breaking when a hill you completely mined out re-appears.

if its in the build area/flame claim area then it shouldn't reset. if it resets it could be a bug, i dont know how far underground, thats a good test

It gets rid of the ugly mess that happens in multiplayer when all the resources are gone and everything is full of holes and torn to rubble. I actually like it.

From the known issues:
Respawn rate (resources and mobs / bosses not respawning)
The world is split into chunks (kind of like Minecraft if you played that? But bigger ones), that have a 2 hours respawn timer that resets them as soon as the chunk is unloaded. The chunk is loaded if people are somewhat near it, a distance that goes between 256 to 400 meters. If anyone loads the chunk back by going near it, the timer resets. :fell_smart:
We are aware that this is feeling too long for a lot of players and are looking into possible solutions. For the time being, you can either reload the map/restart the server, or stay far away for two hours. Restarting is probably much easier especially if you are playing solo.

Status: fix coming in soon

Besides that, the basic flame claims a 40x40x40 area, so until that cap, holes you dig will be persistant.

All in all, I'm fine with the fact that stuff outside your base resets. I haven't that much of an issue here, since I only play with a friend on a dedicated server, but especially on public ones, there's always be a clown that thinks it's funny to dig a murder hole into the street and stuff like that. So this system at least somewhat prevents troling.

If you feel like your mine should be persistent too, what about building a flame there? as far as I got it you can set up up to 20 at all, therefore using 1 for your mine most likely doesn't hurt that much.

it's litterally the lore of the game the shroud have stopped the time of the world and evrything come back again and agin more corrupted each time on ly the flame bearer can transform the land again

the flame altar protect the surroudings from the shroud effects

I'm being smarmy, but if I'm to "literally" apply the lore to the game mechanics, then why doesn't the hill in question have some level of corruption on it, since it regenerated and it's outside the boundaries of my flame alter.

To be clear, I'm not complaining about anything, just getting some clarification on how things respawn.

As long as I know this is how it all works now, I can adjust how I gather resources. No biggie. I do like endless respawn of resource, that's for sure.

I already quoted the FAQ part what the devs say about respawn. The world is divided into chunks and if a chunk isn't loaded for any player for 2 hours, everything that's not in the flame bubble gets reset, same goes for a server restart.
The only "problem" here on player side is that we don't know where the borders between chunks are.
They also said that they are already working on a better solution to determine, when the area should be reset.

Yeah I saw all that. I understand how everything is supposed to work now.

The best part is treasure chests resetting and they don't always have the same items or quality of items in them, so you can remember where the silver and golden chests are and loot them again.

also the core game related stuff. make your base near one of those core-drops. Kill the boss, restart the game, kill the boss, restart the game, kill the boss restart the game: voila: you have a max-level altar.........
the resets completey defeat the purpose of exploration or any other kind of playing the game.

You can also just as easily craft those "core items" very cheaply... The core items were never meant to be hard to upgrade.
It's something like 10 shroud liquid and 10 shroud dust (or whatever it is that drops fro the skeletons)

Very interesting to know.

Also, 20 land claims / flames seems kinda generous

I claimed some ruins with my flame and gathered all my loot into those chests. After the restart everything were reset in the flame too. I made small wooden chests. Everything despawned.

That sounds like there are still some savegame issues. The yesterday hotfix should make them at least less likely.
My friend and I have occupied and renovated ruins from day one. except from a loss of sereval hours caused by a crashed savegame, we never had issues with stuff despawned within our bases.
