I don't know others, but that's also what i'm doing. I use altars as outposts to explore zones and complete quests (and to avoid having to walk so much each time) The problem is that even lonely altars without base are not properly saved and disappear, which also means that my char moves to the main base and i have to walk all the way back to where i was.
And a little update from my previous comment: my last altars are being saved, finally! After building any new one, i used to go back to my base to dump the loot and quit there. When i loaded back, any new altar was gone. So instead of that, now before logging out i'm teleporting back to the newest altar, and only then i quit to main menu. After loading again, my altar is still there. I have confirmed this with my 2 new altars (i have now 5 on the map, my base and the rest for fast travel)
Once each new altar is properly saved on quit, it remains that way no matter the location so it seems to be deleted before that, when saving on quit it seems. Idk what the world reset can do to a base, but i would say that the problem is the game not properly saving an altar as protected terrain so after loading, it can be fully or partially destroyed by the terrain reset.
That's good to know. I will keep an eye out for it. I managed to glide past some red fog tonight into a zone that was 5 or so levels higher than me and drop my temp altar quickly, so will be interesting to see if it's still there tomorrow. Right in the middle of a road too :)
lol i tend to place my altars on crossroads if i can but not exactly on top of a road.
Btw, i still can confirm that teleporting to a new created base and leaving my char there before quitting to menu seems to have solved my problems. I am testing a bit more and see if i can make the game delete a new altar again lol this time adding more stations or even some walls to a new base and see what happens.
I hope devs already know what to do to solve this, i still believe it has to do with the save file system (world being separated from char progress, world being reset each time except on specific protected altars depending on their range of protection, etc) not properly saving the status of each base and on loading, the game's terrain regenerates over a base.
But i managed to build an altar on the exact same spot it disappeared last time (near farmer's vault, precisely, pass the east little mountain) and i sill have it so it can't be a specific zone's problem. Again, imho, it has to do with the save system and not with any part of the map.
All of that apart from the game probably not properly saving all the altars as protected terrain on quit and so regenerating some terrain on top of our altars/bases after we load the next session.
Frankly, imo the first thing they should do ASAP is to implement manual saving (with more than 1 slot, of course) and keep those separated from the automatic saves so if something happens, at least we will still have the manual save. This will also ease the sometimes very frustrating deaths we have because controls, glide opening at a bad time when jumping, etc given that the only fast travel points we have are, precisely and apart from the Spires of each region, our altars and that sometimes we have to walk a lot to try to retreive the loot (and if it's on some of those red lava deadly spots, it's even worse)
Bro,
