E: Improved is sandstone, regular happens sooner costing linen, stone and a waterbucket.
The carpenter needs his masonry tools. He will give you a quest to go get them.
You also need linen to build it (the rope for the bucket), so you will either have to find or make linen to do that. Need 20 units. Making linen will require getting the hunter's hand spindle (another quest), and you will need a ton of flax.
You can find flax growing in the wild. It's not super rare, but it's also not common. So you'd probably want to get the farmer and unlock the seed beds to kick off farming. A single flax flower makes 10 flax seedlings. Later on you will want TONS of flax, for making linen and later on linen turned to fabric. Both are needed to make "padding" which is a requirement for all high tier armors, of all classes.
So, there you go. Just focus on those quests from carpenter and hunter, and start saving all the flax you find.
Either way you need at least Flame Strength level 4 to survive the trip inside The Pillars of Creation so you need to advance the main quest until you kill the Wispwyvern.
Endgame EA, early midgame 1.0 cause 60% of the map and 25 levels are missing ;)
