Lock characters to their game type
Started a single player character and noticed it carried over to multiplayer on a dedicated server. This needs to have the ability to lock characters to only the server. You can easily cheat in single player and then go to a multiplayer game.

Valheim is exactly the same. Play on servers with your friends, problem solved. If you're afraid your friends will cheat, then maybe discuss that with your friends. Not really an issue the devs should need to change.
i agree i like how it works , then you can use your character and have many, play with friends then go play by yourself, your not server locked its fantastic :steamsalty::2016watermelon:

Thanks for this post, games a waste of time for me then. What’s the point if you can just cheat to get everything. I’ll stick to online games where that’s not possible

Yeah think this is more of a self governance thing. I wouldn't want to start from scratch any time I went to a new server.

There is no such thing as "self governance" when speaking about the ability of one to cheat their way during multiplayer. How many games have been slaughtered by the hoards of cvnts who ruin a simple experience in so broad and able a fashion?

Don't get me wrong.... in single player? I cheat as much as I please in Single player games. No one will dictate to me how to induce fun and joy.... not before I get a chance to gut them.... Single player is a subjective experience

Multiplayer? You are not playing against another persons character on your screen, shooting his pixels and dunking on his wife's perfectly manicured in game garden that took her HOURS because she doesn't know how to play but still wants some colour, ANY color in her husbands daily life. You are playing with other People, against other People, using the game as a medium for social interaction.

Anything you do that cheats another person? costs them time. The most valuable resource you will EVER get your hands on. Moreover, the appeal of Multiplayer is the unlimited experience that is Social Interaction.... to allow for unfairness as a part of the very foundation of the experience... when it can be avoided so easily... to me seems like a lack of respect for Time.

A SP save existing locally... a MP save existing on a server, transferred from one to another when you so wish. and when those two servers approve. We already know that separating the two save types is possible.... it is not a technological leap to get this done.

Making this separation acknowledges the distinct difference in experience a Person feels during SP & MP gaming sessions. Those two experiences are NOT the same.... and any allowance for cheating for no other reason than convenience is irrational.

I am glad I jump into steam discussions before approving the cart.... but I really do not want to wait long to find out if this type of separation will be made.... splattercat made this look way too fun to miss.
when you cheat you only cheat your self MOVE ALONG :steamsalty::2016watermelon:

HOW? Go ahead.... i'll read an entire thesis you have on how other people have fun.
MUST BE NICE! To be an expert on how other people feel and do things and experience their lives.

inb4 - "but, dats not how you play!"
So? Who TF are you to dictate to me what is an acceptable level of fun for my time?

When you cheat in SP.... you do in deed alter your experience.... but as you Shirley must already know... people do things differently.

Cheating in SP? That is NOT cheating yourself. The experience is entirely internal, and requires no consent to agreed upon behavior beforehand. In what realm of social interaction is cheating acceptable? Maybe you need a tiny story to help?
Lets say... you are out to lunch, enjoying your food.... and your milkshake. Playing chess with your partner.
Than I... because I am only cheating myself... pick up your milkshake and drink it right in front of you. Then, I replace your partners Pawns with Rooks

Thats right.... I drink your milkshake
and I Necromancer her pieces.

inb4 - "stealing isn't cheating" much like stealing, cheating is an unacceptable social interaction. Sure, by mutual consent you may both agree to keep playing, because funny things might happen..... but online? There is no mutual consent when someone cheats.

But like I was saying.... I am RIGID with anticipation of your thesis on "Cheating SP is harmful to yourself.... but simultaneously allowing for MP cheating is OK."

I must be missing something. How exactly do you "cheat" in single player? By working for hours to unlock NPC's - which you'll have to do again on a hosted server. By getting good gear... again, spending hours doing so. By leveling higher than your friends? Umm... nothing is stopping them from leveling.

I love the fact that your character, that you have WORKED on, can go as is into other worlds. This was one of the "selling" points for me (as a Valheim player where you can do the same thing). I don't see it as "cheating" when you have to work to get what you have. Unlike Valheim, there is no "creative mode" or mods or console cheats that will just "spawn" any item in the game that you can carry into other servers. In this game, if you have it, you EARNED it. How is that "cheating"?
