You dont have to use them of course... I guess that makes them toggleable by your desire.
I do love to see the scenery myself ... but there seems to be plenty of magic in the game so its not like its completely uncalled for. I do hope we have to earn each of the portals by combat or such; seems likely.
Yeah, exactly. Just like fast travel in Skyrim or dozens of other open world games, you can always choose not to use it. That's been the very essence of what created Survival Modes in games.
Imagine playing a couple months from now when you have the map very well explored but even then haven't seen all of it. You're *really* going to glean entertainment from spending 20 - 30 minutes of playing time running back to your base? Basically covering ground you already know and doing nothing interesting while having to manage your stamina as you sprint as much as you can - doesn't sound like big fun.
You do have to travel and explore to get to new places, that's fun and interesting. Having to drudge over hill and dale to get back to known content - meh not so much for this player.
If I host a multiplayer world I would like to make this a mandatory option. Pretty much only way to accomplish this is forcing it. Also, this is the kind of thing that it's easier to teleport but less fun. So you kind of have to enable it in game rules or players will always take the easiest route regardless of if it provides the best game experience.
If it's explained, no. Think Terraria's teleportation mirror you have to find. From what I saw it's just something you do, which makes me think it's just to save time and thus not immersive. Even games with magic have internal consistency.

Same thought process
So it is not something ground braking .
