Tried to play the demo but it says no license.
Was the demo only available for next fest? I was waiting to show a friend who just arrived from Japan.

Yes. And the Developers had communicated this in exactly the same way. "Steam Next Fest 2023" was from October 9. -16. There was probably a reason that the Demo was even playable about a week earlier. And after the many positive reviews, the Devs decided to keep the Demo online until October 22. Early-Access starts at 24.January 2024.

Greetz :winkkit:

Sad. Why get rid of a demo for a fantastic game? It would just keep drawing more people in.

I Have been gaming for over 40 years , Today's younger developers were not brought up the same as as us older folks. Most of them never new the struggles we had back in 1980 , no GUI (Windows) No Mouse, We had to use a keyboard, And no color graphics. You had very few language choices. Mostly Interpreter basic , Compiled basic or assembler. Pascal came along, later , then c (not c++) . Now they have the game engines (which do a lot of the work ) and even AI to help with coding. Demos then stayed around forever.

I think it is more about ensuring that the expectations stay on track. The demo is probably far from the final product and it would be disingenuous to continue to publish it as an accurate demo. The game moves on and keeping the demo updated to match would be time consuming ($$).

The demo was great and reflected the game at the time it was out.

Maybe after release they will think it worth remaking a demo....

The demo had it's flaws, while I was able to enjoy my 1st plays session without many issues, I could no longer play the game later due to crashing (after changing graphic options to lower specs).
While I'm waiting with great anticipation for the game, early access or new demo, I'm also happy that the old demo is no longer available to play,

The game has some nice potential from what I played. Haven't seen a game with this kinda sandbox since 'Planet Explorers' which was a fun game that sadly got abandoned.

The frame rate was pretty bad though at the time and eventually crashed as it worsened much further in.

Yeah, Thats when games programmers were real programmers / engineers and architects.

I'm pretty sure that they haven't moved that far past the demo yet. At this point, it's fine tuning an balancing. You're talking like the demo launched a year ago. It's been a few months.

Because there was no limit on the world and some people overplay to the point they either have everything and no longer need to buy the game plus people was starting new worlds moving stuff over and refreshing the timer..... ain't gonna make money if you have a 24/7 free demo to the entirety of the game.

This might explain why the demo is no longer available.

Limiting the demo likely helps with hype too... while curbing people from getting burnt out.

The demo was limited though... think it was like 8 in game days or something.
