Clear the Elixir Well - How??

I find the boss to be extremely difficult

go underground (entrance near the camp) and kill the boss, then destroy the mushroom

Thanks, I tried a couple of times but the boss one-shotted me always. Any idea where to get the metal for decent gear to face him?

You can easily kill him with a bow or mage wand. Try not to be hit by him. When he attacks dodge away. If necessary you can reset the encounter any time by running back to the stairs.
