Where is the water?
No ponds, streams, lakes, oceans?
No water at all in the entire world?
Really?

I've noticed red "lava" rivers within the shroud, looks like where water was at before it took over. But I do believe the story explains it later on.

Yeah, there are multiple lore notes about the water. There's a huge dam up north, and the water flow just stopped one day... even with the sluice gates fully open. The entire water area behind the dam is solid red shroud.

If you got to certain areas like the docks of pikesmead, or jasper isles, you will see docks with boats, all "floating" on the red shroud that people keep calling "lava". Apparently the shroud hits water and grows in it until it's basically a solid.

But of course, the real reason there's no water is because the engine currently can't handle it.

Well the grass is green and there are some snowy mountains right, they should put some lore behind this though, and add some weather effects to boot, rain and such would be great. And its not a CPU hog as water is.

Have you read any of the notes around the game? There are several about the water disappearing.

The workaround in this game I think is since the world resets they just need to make rivers not voxel based and not interactive in a voxel sense. make the rivers un harvestable ect. Not the best either but then its not jank voxel water either

I've read where because this is a voxel game the Devs haven't figured out how to actually make water "work". I guess they have something against just a lake or a pond here or there to add to the scenery.... they only seem to be looking at **moving** water (streams, rivers, waterfalls) and how those would work in a voxel world.

I would just love a simple pond/lake here or there until they can figure out the "moving" water issue. I could have sworn I'd played other voxel games that have water in them....

Me wants my Mush!
Maybe we can mine and make underwater lakes with the way water runs through the Ground.

I read this. I think I found a total of three messages (lore) in the game about the lack of water in the world. In reading them, it almost felt like the devs were writing in an explanation for why no water in the game. Lore aside, there has to be a reason the devs opted to not have water. There is vibrant, lush land all over Enshrouded that is not in the shroud. Lush forests, farms with crops, buckets, Barrels, troughs. Putting ponds here and there could have been done, but wasn't. To me this points to an intentional decision beyond the lore.

This is exactly how I feel about it as well. The "lore" was written just to "explain" why the Devs didn't put water in. Even static water in ponds/lakes would be better than no water at all.... considering there is so much "evidence" that there IS, IN FACT water in the world (wells, buckets, barrels, MUD, etc).

just insert a non voxel based water physics maybe even make it not interactible other then swimming. makeshift fix for the voxel water jank.

Where the water is supposed to be, their is the shroud. Do you remember the large bridge at the start of the story. Their was probably water under it, but now it is shroud. So the shroud might be cursed water or something else. At least I'm certain it is something related to the shroud. You're not the only one not happy with this. I wanted to build an island base, but it doesn't look possible.

With this it is also fair to note the shroud biome has a very under the water vibe due to it being filled with sea biome-esk landscaping such as reefs, barnacles, and other sea formed material.

Since we're bumping the thread, water is in the roadmap as a future update.
Rogue_Zephyr Mar 17, 2024 @ 12:20am
On the roadmap the devs. had it on there but theres no plans to have it now. It probably requires alot of work so it isn't a priority at the moment. They've already listed what we should expect first with a nice list of features. Water would be nice but it isn't necessary atm.

I'm okay without water. I'm not a fan of aquatic based combat in a general sense.

Oh maann.. does anyone complaining about no water in game ever read the lore pages found in the game or even understood what they are telling?

(and yes, as Keen stated, it is a technological challenge for their engine, so i guess it's a neet explanation why there is currently no water, which - as they although mentioned in the "roadmap" (which looks more like a wishlist) - is eventually gonne be implemented in the future).

You mean did we read the lore pages in the middle of a non-pausing game where enemies eagerly blitz you from nowhere and you frequently have a sudden death counter ticking down over your head? No. No we did not read the lore pages.

I have never found a note or lore page which I can't read in peace? Most are with no enemies, some you can read AFTER you killed the enemies. And ... surprise ... all notes are stored in your log, so you can read them in your base in the evening at a campfire.
