Combo Strings

Ok so is it me or are people noticing a lack of follow-up on combos in this game lately? Decided to give it another go after that 1st main patch completely wrecked the combat fluidity last year--317 days ago. So, after a simple left click the game is now -- halting follow-up inputs. It's happened more than once, or else I'd chalk it up as a minor hiccup or smth, so is there some option to avoid this or are these the "new mechanics" because we're playing against consoles now as well?
