Can I please get some clarification about farming?
In the game, it leads you to believe that crop rotation is better than using fertilizer, and there is even an achievement for that. However, if you solely depend on crop rotation, you will never get three stars, because you cannot add fertilizer to the same type of soil. So crop rotation is actually worse than using fertilizer.

What I would expect to happen is that if you use crop rotation, it would automatically get the two stars for proper soil AND fertilizer. I don't know the purpose of crop rotation if it will be punished by never being three stars.

If you plant a spring onion, it will leave behind sticky soil, which carrots love. If you then plant carrots, you normally wouldnt use fertilizer because the soil is already sticky, and you would have to change it *from* sticky using a different fertilizer, and then use sticky fertilizer to put it back. This, to me, is punishing people using an intended game mechanic.

It would be nice to hear I am just doing it wrong, though.

You can add fertilizer to unfertilized soil regardless of what soil type it is. So if you harvest spring onions, you can add sticky fertilizer to the sticky soil. You just can't add sticky fertilizer to the soil again because that's completely unnecessary.

I do wish utilizing crop rotation was more rewarding though, like maybe a harvest buff or increased chance of seed drops. I think it's mainly a way to boost the value of your crops when you're just starting out and don't have as much money or poop to go around, but it would be great to have a reason to continue using the mechanic as you progress.

I'll have to test that out, thanks for letting me know. And yes, I agree with you. It's major downgrade to utilize the neatest thing about farming in this game. That's a big shame, in my opinion. I was excited when they first talked about it in the game, since I'd never seen anything like it before. I wish the devs would embrace it instead of making it obsolete.
