NPC Budding days, specific? gifts, and char implications?

I have been wondering about this for quite some time now. Most of the main NPCs celebrate Budding Day (first day they started to live on this "island")... except for Pipping and Orani IIRC.

On a Budding day you can wish the NPCs well, give them a gift (or endless? amounts of gifts sometimes), give nothing, or just leave.

The strange thing I have not been able to track yet is, that sometimes I seem to have given the NPC their favourite gift, and that ends the Budding day dialogue (probably in a good way). In other cases I have been handing out fruit, cake, pie and all sorts of other food, but they kept on letting me gift them even more food.

Questions:

• So, has anyone been able to figure out if the NPCs actually do have favourite gifts?
  
• And what these gifts are?
  
• And what difference does it make to actually attend a Budding day or not?
  
• Does it make a difference to gift something at all?

I am guessing attending a Budding day, gifting a "valuable" food item, ups the friendship value of that NPC? (I never checked.)

Note: I think I gave Avery "his" spicy spaghetti pasta dish, and that ended the Budding day dialogue, so could have been his favourite or that it was the right gift for him.

I am aware that the meaning of the player's Budding day - i.e. the player to stay at the farm all day - is to receive some free stuff... that might be useful or of some value.

I don't know about the favorite gifts but I do know that you don't have to stay home on your budding day. If someone brings you a gift and you aren't home they leave the gift with a note in your mailbox.

I only know that Mari's favourite gift is strawberries, this is because when I didn't give her a gift on the first budding day/Mari's budding day that she said that strawberries were her favourite thing and to remember for her budding day next time. Sorry this is all I know so far.

I don't know about favorite gifts, but gifting on budding day raises your friendship with that person.

I gave Owynn some Potato Soup and he seemed happy with that, didn't want anything else.

NPCs do not have favorite Budding Day gifts, unfortunately, speaking as someone who tried to discover the "favorite dish" of several NPCs via brute-force attack. :( I think this would be such a cute in-game secret and a lot of fun to discover if the devs were to implement it, though!

Some NPCs have extra dialogue if you gift them food which, once concluded, automatically closes the Budding Day prompt. Owynn is one of them: he did the same thing when I gave him blueberry pancakes.
