The best game i've played ever period. it truly is a masterwork in engineering, storytelling, and design. reccomend for all gamers, and goblin enthusiasts.

Peaceful music and a wide range of enemies (spiders, wolves, ogres and more)
Found some neat secrets and hidden traps too

Consider levels 1-4 the tutorial, as it really opens up after that

I thoroughly enjoyed this game, beat all 20 levels and gotten upgrades and achievements (beside the revive teammate). Sure it's janky at times with an odd hitbox, but the gameplay is fun and can be challenging until you grind enough coins to become stronger.

Unfortunately, there isn't anyone to play this game as you can teamup with other players, which would be awesome!

Portal Dungeon: Goblin Escape is a masterpiece ahead of it's time. I first started my Goblin adventure on the 16/01/23 and have not looked back since buying this game. I am fully addicted to this game as I have left my job and cut off all communications to outside world. I am in touch with my people. My goblin brethren have been oppressed for far too long, and we have had enough of this tyranny from the orcs. I will save them. I have committed every waking moment to the service of freeing my imprisoned goblin companions. Every dungeon run has been fully planned out and completed to the fullest of my capabilities to clear the dungeons as quick as possible to free my fellow goblins. I will not rest until every goblin has been freed and can live safely in this world without being imprisoned or accused of heinous crimes. This I promise.

Sorry goblin fans, this goblin is adequate at best.

+ It's dumb and simple enough to be the kind of inbetween game with nearly no story you can play on a "I want to click and not think at all." break.
It's literally just "click to break or attack objects" the game.

+ The goblin's design is funny since his head looks like a dragon's.

- The music is generic and forgettable, seriously just mute it and pick your own music in the background.

- The sound balance is terrible because the music can be at least adequately hearable. However, the sound effects are incredibly quiet by comparison.

- You can't remap the controls.

- The game is locked to 60 FPS and trying to run a FPS measuring software will force you to windowed mode.

- The UI is simple, but it could just at least minimum words for icons.
Here's what I've figured out via observation: the goblin head is EXP, the pink-purple bottle is HP and maybe something else I can't remember.

- Levels just get bigger, but no more interesting.
E.g. I did 2 levels and all the game did was make me fight differently colored spiders.

- That is not a jump. That is 100% floating.

- A lot of the time you will get no visual feedback when you hit an object, if the object requires multiple hits to break. Same problem with enemies, I don't know if the screen going momentarily red means I've taken or dealt damage.

- No minimap and levels get ridiculously long and full of turns and hidden rooms for no apparent reason.

- You get achievements tracking achievement progress. Why?

- You get "challenges" to get more coins to unlock gear, but they're completely random and do not adapt to the level you're in at all.
E.g. I got a challenge to free 2 goblins after I had already freed a goblin and another to upgrade my gear after I had already purchased 3 upgrades with the coins I got from breaking every single bit of furniture I could find.

- Hitting an enemy also feels floaty and does not feel impactful.

- Have enough coins to get say level 3 armor and you currently have level 1 armor? You can't, you can only purchase upgrades in order.

- Some armor upgrades don't even have proper icons. Why?

- Goblin gets new armor. -> He's beginning to look like a proper adventurer. -> His butt is still exposed. Why?

- The goblin moves his legs like a freaking ballerina.
Seriously most of his leg movement is just ... no. Just no.

It's functional sure and I don't think the game will crash to desktop or something equally severe, but this should still be labeled as an early access title given the lack of polish.

Even though it seems at first glance like this was just a generic game thrown together with cheap assets, it ended up being playable and entertaining enough for a few hours. Just don't expect much.

You, a goblin slave, have been given the task of clearing 20 portals. If you've ever played a game similar to this one, you won't have much issue handling the enemies and traps. If there’s an enemy standing in your way, hit it. If there’s a hazard, jump or avoid it. That is all there is to know. A stage is completed when you find a key and kill a set number of enemies.

Controls are weird and have this floaty feel to them. Gamepad is supported, but buttons can’t be changed. The attack's location on the right shoulder button was the greatest mistake. When all you're doing is pressing the button, it's incredibly awkward. I don't understand why this wasn't moved to one of the two free face buttons.

Common adversaries that may be found in every hack and slash game are blocking your path. You will only be battling spiders, dogs, rats, some large ogres and nasty leeches. For each of the five environments, there is typically just one enemy, however they come in various types. There are very few stages where you'll be battling multiple species at once. They lack intelligence and die quickly, especially when the door is too narrow for them and they just stand there. However, as the door closes behind you, they enjoy ambushing you out of nowhere.

The issue arises during ludicrous boss fights against king-sized variations of the main enemy. You must constantly move and hammer the attack button because there is no dodge button. But you'll quickly understand that there is no strategy because you will always get hit.

The only approach to defeat them is to upgrade often enough to outlast the boss in a direct fight. Thankfully, only the first two bosses are actually dangerous. The other two are just sitting there, minding their own business. Overall, the second half of the game felt like there was lack of ideas. Stages got shorter, the key was nearby and you only had to kill a few enemies. The final stage was disappointing; a gauntlet of five rooms for each enemy type and no big bad boss.

Every other object on the level, save walls and the structures, can be destroyed for coins. You name it: pots, tables, bookshelves, etc. The marked walls that conceal a hidden chest can be destroyed, but the rest is made of solid stone. The key needed to complete the stage is the primary, more significant reason to destroy items. Depending on the level, the key might be hidden in a random object.

The acquired coins are used to upgrade the goblin’s armor and starting pickaxe. It’s a big plus that upgrades are also visible on the character. While your weapon gradually get more lethal and transforms into swords, axes, and finally battleaxes, armor only adds more plates to the body. You only ever carry one weapon; the upgrade merely replaces it.

You can replay previous stages and grind for cash if a weapon doesn't feel powerful enough. The goblin also gains experience by hitting things. You advance in level and receive a couple more points for your overall health once the bar is filled.

All of this may be done in the main portal room, which also contains the bestiary, healing station, and challenges. If you don't want to bother with the three available, you can refresh the challenges with a token. Because you can view opponent health, damage, and in which portal they can be found, the bestiary is quite fascinating.

With the exception of the multiplayer achievement, which requires you to revive a player, the rest of the achievements are nice and doable. The issue with multiplayer is that no one is playing the game. I’ve had to ask on the discussion board and luckily found a gamer willing to help. Also, there's a clipping issue when you upgrade armor and weapons too much; your character will clip through the floor when you die.

Getting stuck is quite often a common thing for me. I was wondering if there could be go to back to start of level button, or possible to fix getting stuck. As of right now it seems that I keep getting stuck in the trees. Otherwise this game is good.
