The beginning, the police force joins up, the fleeing civilians, or clearing the final hives?
Sorry if my questions are annoying, just trying to be as precise as possible with my answers so I can help best.
I'm not there myself yet but if I find out how, I'll tell you how I manage to beat it. Good luck in the meantime!
So your problem is during the the last 5 minutes of the mission?
Yes indeed!
Well, hopefully I can help with what I can remember.
Since you already know whats coming its best to prepare beforehand. Riot Squads, Mortar Turrets, and Heavy Turrets are your best friends in this mission. Riots to hold chokes and distract, while Mortars rain from above, and Heavy Turrets set to Tanker priority. The walkers are also excellent once they are promoted and have the bombing drone. Having enough Mortars on each side 2-3, usually just two, is more then enough to keep them at bay as long as you pay attention to your Riot Squads and use their ability to make them invulnerable. Having some units that can take care of the air is recommended. Can even have some standard turrets if you feel its needed. Usually 1 Riot Squad is enough for each side but can always put 2 on the side that gets hit the hardest.
Before the final stand you can send an engineer down to the bottom early and build the standard turrets when you can and where you can. You wanna try and keep the units already down there alive. You shouldn't ever be overrun on the bottom if you have some standard turrets and at least 1 extra unit in areas where they'll come. Could have a unit on standby and have em go where you get hit the hardest.
With that said, micromanaging is also a big part of making sure things don't fall apart. You can reload saves and do trial and error and react/change things to correct mistakes.
I did get a bit overwhelmed at first but managed to set up my defenses, and this is what got me through it:
