At the beginning you just wear movie jackets but later on your troops all get power armor and it turns into mini-Mech Commander.

To be more on topic, I can't think of many games that come close to the thing in question that are still available and functional on modern hardware. However, if you like the idea of jet packs and smallarms against giant bugs, then I might suggest the game Space Engineers with a few mods available from the workshop. Helldivers 1/2 might hit the spot too.
Starship Troopers novel is good read - 1997 movie adaptation is kind of parady of the original novel... the original novel itself is "serious" military sci-fi with social and political themes (futuristic society dominated by a military elite)
Arachnids do not have laser weapons in the novel
