We have "the true campaign" already in the base game
Territory Mode as a Grand Scale Conquest would be dope.
I think, I know, where the OP is heading, but for me, it seems a bit weird, like Company of Heroes 2 and Company of Heroes 3 have that style campaign (Ardennes Assault in CoH2, Italian campaign in CoH3) and it is interesting, but definitely not something like "must be". I would say, that OP overestimates these campaigns.
Total War is completely different - TW directly focuses on turn based grand campaign part...
The game is actually good..
I actually missed here, what You want to save :D
All "meta progression" would really add is more maps and a expanded and likely more tedious tech tree. Honestly I think I'd just prefer more varied objectives, maybe one mission would be to rescue a stranded or crashed CO. Maybe another could be protecting an important building, or having an AI ally and having to defend a gigantic fort like one of the missions in the campaign.
I don't think execution is a problem but lack of good enough replayability if that makes sense.
Right now its too linear. Yes you can approach objectives your own way.
But I wanted the feel of actually taking a planet back. Using assets behind the scenes prior to an assault.
Think DoW Dark Crusade, or something similar. This is what territory mode should have been.
Territory mode, I am willing to bet, with those 3 maps will get stale pretty quick. The locations will be randomized in terms of spawning....thats its. Eventually you can begin to guess where and when they'll spawn as they all have a system to work off of.
They could have taken the other systems and applied them to an overall grand campaign. Doesn't have to be TW level but similar enough to make it feel like I'm actually working towards something.
I'm sure the CopyRight holder of the franchise would have to approve it as well.
My idea is right now we got desert, urban, and lava based worlds. What about a temperate or ice one that we assault? Use assets we earn through optional objectives?
Maybe I'm hoping for too much lol
