Fighting against (or alongside) humanoid enemies like the Skinnies would require a very different set of tactics than fighting the Bugs.
They are somewhat prominent in Roughneck Chronicles, where they were originally brainwashed by bug parasites and then switch sides to the humans. Then there is one Skinny who joins the Roughnecks. They seem kind of clumsy and slow in this show, but that's kind of the animation style too.
They have a much bigger role in that ST board game series where they are a third faction. From what I know of it, which is very little, they operate more as elite mercenaries in small squads, sometimes exoskeletons and maybe mechs. They are pretty much raiders.
There was actually this really cool aspect about the Skinnies in the RPG in that the Federation was afraid to chase them too far because they never encountered the Skinny military and were afraid to start a war on another front so they rather decided to just defend/ignore the periphery.
in the live stream they did say thier drawing from the RPG so i'm hopeful will get stuff like that and the black cross.
