Ground unit custom movement paths

I would like to move a tank along a custom route. Why?
I know where an enemy AT is. The game automatically gives me a route for the tank to follow to the target hex. But that would put me in AT interception range and I would be stopped and attacked. BUT, I have enough movement points to choose to move along another route with no AT on the way.
Am I missing something, or is this like some very old wargames in which I had the same complaint? Can I custom move the tank to its´ target hex?
If not, this definitely needs to be fixed!
