Your experiences with the different character classes?
Hi, everyone!

I thought it might be interesting for people to have a thread where they can talk about which classes they prefer, which they struggled with and if any of that ever changed.

Personally I didn't get along well with the melee classes at first. I was neither particularly interested in them nor did I know how to play them. The Berserker is the only one which I liked playing at first and I only came back to Wyrdhunter and Pathfinder after all the other classes. I completely ignored the Wyrdhunter's passive mechanic on the second playthrough, but it was still fun abusing a really strong passive. With the second playthrough of the Pathfinder it might just have been that I had more cards and passives available. Whatever the reasons I found the class much easier to play and could appreciate the idea more.

The Summoner was comparatively easy to play and I barely ran into any trouble with it, even though at that point I really didn't have much of a clue about the game. Still one of my favourites. The Necromancer was probably the hardest to wrap my head around at first, but it's probably the most interesting class in the game and I eventually found it much easier to play than it seemed at first. The Bloodmage sits in an awkward middle ground where it wasn't hard to play, but I also wasn't the biggest fan of the concept.

Similar case with the Zealot, but much more so. The concept is probably the least interesting of all of them, but it was still easy to play. The Apostate on the other hand always felt like I was playing it wrong. I didn't have that much trouble with it in terms of difficulty, but it's definitely one of the more difficult classes to play "properly" so to speak. The Sentinel is my favourite out of the range classes. Mostly because the Phantom concept just feels good for some reason. I guess it's the fact that you are getting constantly rewarded merely for doing some (probably free) attacks.

I'm new to the game is the starting class weak af or something? Takes her forever to kill anything and when it's 3 v 1 she gets wrecked really easy. Not sure how much fun I'm having so far but I'm still learning I guess.

Firstly this game has perma progression so the more you play, the more stuff (cards) you unlock and you also get ressources to perma upgrade stats.
That said, the starting char relies in combos. That means hit often with weak attacks to trigger vulnerable and then use your active (bottom left) to deal big damage.

I might be doing something wrong as you unlock the cards can you build a new starter deck after you die and start a new run? I don't have much time in the game it's mostly afk hours while I'm working. I just unlocked the summoner not real long ago.

Summoner is the first class I've beat the game with. You are right that you start with a fresh deck but have the options to obtain the cards you unlock.

I'm with you on the being on your own against numbers, part of the reason I like Summoner so much, just beat the final boss with a Wyrm Summoner.

I think Melee and Summoner are good but especially the 3 archer classes are very weak both in terms of damage but especially in how they play. Flip cards are super annoying and damage is just abysmal.
Note that your build gets stronger as you get more cards in a given run (aka you add more synergy to your deck).

I think I had a somewhat harder time handling the Blocks of the melee classes at first. Ranged classes always have Barrier at the ready, but with melee you often need to juggle Block and Stuns, have enough Armor etc.

If you want an easy source of big damage with a ranged class then Zealot is your go-to.

Every time I picked a new class I was like " This class sucks, how am I supposed to beat the game with it? ".

After figuring it out I was like " Damn this class is OP, easiest class! ". It was a funny journey.

Same here with the melee classes, I found the Wyrdhunter weak when I started.

Then I thought of trying out the weekly event and the class for it was the Necromancer. I liked that one since I made more progress for the first time. The Sentinel was interesting but failed with it too. The Summoner is the first class I beat the game with as it was the easiest to play. Just have a couple of Golems as protection and then summon an Abomination or Wyrm for attacking. Buff/Level them up until fight ends and continue attacking. Talking about Difficulty 1 of course, when I was still a noob.

Berserker was the next class I enjoyed playing. All the HP sacrifices that didn't make sense for me earlier, made sense once I picked the Beserker. Lose HP for max HP? Sure I'll take it.

The most difficult for me was the Blood Made, no wonder only a few people got the achievement of reaching lvl 20 with it. But I found a way eventually.

I really liked the Necromancer but the first time I played I didn't notice that the Lich has only 25hp so I lost a few times because of that. It is actually disappointing because transforming into a Lich should make the player stronger not weaker. I mean it is the class Ultimate ability, cmon. Eventually I realized that I shouldn't count too much on the Lich form and focus on just using the minions. Basically turn Abominations into ethereal forms asap and buff them. Having barrier on you helps too.

By the way the Necromancer is a bit special in my opinion because it has more visual and sound effects than the other classes. They obviously put more work into the art direction of that class.

I've tried 2 of the melee classes they both felt weak to me compared to the archers and summoners. Block and relying on stuns feels inefficient and less reliable than stacking armor and barrier, in my opinion. Enemies that do multiple attacks soak up blocks even if they're only hitting for 1 damage.

Necromancer feels like I play cards until I win. I don't quite understand where minion damage comes from; sometimes my wyrms are hitting 4x50, sometimes 3x6, and I swear they are roughly the same level or so.

I have tried getting them up to level 7 or 8 real fast then sacrificing them, but the scaling still feels off.

Lich form is good but I haven't gotten it to be amazing.

Necromancer is a tricky one. I noticed that the minion's damage increases after sacrificing them. There is a passive that allows a sacrificed minion to stay in ethereal form for one more round. If you combine that with passives that buff the minion's damage and make them attack multiple times in a round it works. My favorite minion to use was the abomination, if I remember correctly I also had a passive that spawns an extra abomination at the start of each fight.

edit : Of course to get the right passives and cards you also need a little RNG luck, some classes imo heavily depend on that.

I don't get it either feels weaker than the other 2 summoners to me. Summon a level 4 Wyrm and it does 8 damage against a monster, with zero armor, then if you sacrifice it, it gets bumped up to amazing 15 damage wtf is that about? Takes forever to kill anything. Lich form feels kind of underwhelming

I think I just treated Lich Form and the minions as more of a utility box with various tools in it once I started to understand the class better. Early on at least when Lich form is still relatively weak.

Eventually Left Hand Path and Right Hand Path (and probably some other things) made the Lich pretty powerful.

Seems like a high skill ceiling class, maybe the hardest in the game to master, along with Berserker? I don't know. anyways, ya Lich form can be useful and is definitely a cool mechanic I give the devs props there...but ya I think you have to build around it over time with the right card additions.

I'm fond of the melee classes. With enough block and stun you just never take damage. Pathfinder was the easiest to get into, since the active helps find the cards I need and the energy to play them. Wyrdhunter was my second win earlier this evening, it can do seriously massive damage by comboing multipliers.

I hated Sentinel, entirely because of the flip mechanic. Summoner was much more fun, though I only tried it once before unlocking and being charmed by Pathfinder.

To me The Summoner is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard. The golem should tank all damage, but I STILL take damage. I may have missed it, but there's a few instances I've encountered where it totally lacks an explanation of how stuff works
