Necromancer - Lich Form reforging rune - right hand path: help

So I'm new to the game and I got deep to corruption level 4 and have been constantly using Necromancer but something has been bugging about one of his runes.

Specifically his rune for Lich Form "right hand path" it gives "3 new curse cards, +2 energy and If killed in Lich form, return to Necromancer's base form fully healed" the last part doesn't seem to work for me?

How does that last part about being killed in Lich form work? does it only works once per combat? once per game?

context: I was fighting the last boss and his damage was something like 2x110~125 and my base form had over 300 HP max and fully healed before I even went into Lich form. However the first hit from the boss would have definitely killed my Lich form but I didn't do anything to protect myself because I assumed "right hand path" would have stepped in but when i got hit I fully died and lost. I was expecting at worst to die in Lich form then maybe be at around 200 out of 300 HP. What happened? I can't find any answers about how this thing works or anything related to the issue anywhere.

I just thought of something that could be a bug interaction with a skill, here's my thoughts. There's a skill (from the best of my memory) called "another try" and it said "if your barrier is broken from a fatal blow, remain at 25 hp instead". I definitely had this skill on me, I assumed the "remain at 25 hp instead" was some weird typo error and was really talking about giving you 25 barrier after your initial barrier was broken. Am I wrong? is this skill horrible and caused this to happen? is the skill broken or has a broken interaction with "right hand path"?

EDIT: I just want to say through some small testing. I believe it is very highly likely the Issue is related to "another try" as I had no problem with "right hand path" rune when dying and not taking "another try" skill.
