Dashing?

I don't get how dash suppose to work in this game.
Most times when I'm pressing dash button nothing happens. Sometimes dash activates in mid-air, but I cant get the system behind it.

After a 4 hours of play I have a thing to add
This IS definitely a BUG that only manifests in prologue when you ride dads rig.
When you install dash upgrade on you own rig in the course of paythrough, it works perfectly fine.
