Tab 1: analysis phase which tells you what the new cubes do when you complete the objectives. To unlock the second tab you have to complete both objectives of a single element (easiest is doing the ones in the forest).
Side note: it would be best to save all the hits taken and enemies destroyed money for tab 3.
Tab 2: research phase. Top part is where you make era guys naturally weaker, the other part is where you reduce the exp needed to shut off the abilities of an era enemy type (which is what you can do in tower testing after completing both objectives of an element in tab 1) which then at 950 exp (5 times) you will unlock tab 3.
Tab 3: this is where you can reduce the exp requirement all the way down to 350 exp or so to start with when making the era dudes weaker. This is also where you get new modules, a lot of good ones too. Each element has its own modules, you pay normal blue stuff to start a timer to get an element piece and take away the time with hits taken and enemies destroyed, stack 5 and try to unlock a module.
Which tab of the stairs are you stuck on? Analysis, Research, or Experiment?
analysis. im getting kills but not any hits taken even thought im dying a lot.
even the kills arent adding up to the amount im actually killing. I think im missing something. dont understand
In the Stairs menu in the Workshop, there are 3 tabs on the left. Only the Era is open if you just unlocked the Stairs. Inside the Era tab, there are 3 tabs: Analysis, Research and Experiment.
Analysis: you'll see objectives for each element, and they're all about hits taken and enemies destroyed. All you have to do is start a run in Tower Testing, reach Era 1, then farm hits taken and/or enemies destroyed depending on which ones you need. You'll also need to do this in multiple regions to get them all done. Once you've done the hits taken and enemies destroyed objectives for any element, you gain the ability to disable that element's powers during a Tower Testing run, and you unlock the ability to reduce their XP cost in the Research tab.
Research: At the top, you spend blue cubes and gems to improve the base stats reduction to Era enemies. That's because Era enemies get a stats buff, and this allows you to reduce it enough to handle them just fine at the start of a Tower Testing run.
The rest of this tab is about reducing the XP costs of disabling the powers of the elements. Again, you'll spend blue cubes there. The waiting times can be shortened or skipped by spending hits taken and/or enemies destroyed of the corresponding element. Once the XP cost goes down to 950 XP in any element, it will unlock its corresponding element in the Experiment tab.
Experiment: The top part is about reducing the XP cost of reducing Era enemies' stats. You can spend gems there to skip waiting times. It goes all the way down to 355 XP at max for both HP and Damage and it's definitely worth the effort.
The bottom part is about gaining Essence. You spend blue cubes to gain Essence of the corresponding element after waiting for some time. The waiting times can be shortened or skipped by spending hits taken and/or enemies destroyed of the corresponding element. Each time a bar is filled, you get one Essence of that element. You can then spend Essence to unlock new modules. If you don't get a module after spending some Essence, the odds of gaining that specific module increase a bit, so you're more likely to get it next time. Once you've unlocked all modules of a given element, I recommend continuing to gain more Essence. It'll be important later on in the game.
Edit: should've refreshed before posting. Anyway, to get more hits taken, I suggest using a defensive build that deals little damage.
Hits taken is definitely tricky. You want a tank build but not one that dodges/parries/evades a bunch of hits. You want one that takes every single hit, but just reduced the damage taken of the hit (ie Elemental Resistance). Also, levelling your HP/Shield helps a lot with this objective. Also (something I failed to do), make sure you run a variety of regions that have the different elements. I ended up running 4 different regions...none of which had *fire* enemeis (oops). And even then it can take a while, so a bit of patience is needed. (Good practice for what is coming later.)
