I wonder if there is a way to earn exotic gems in game as I try to avoid buying advantages in games. I found one in Mine but it requires 5 exotic gems to start. Is it possible to earn those 5 gems or do they have to be bought?

i see a screenshot of people reciving gems but i think thats more end game and their web file ported over. i'm sure a shop will come eventually, i played the first perfect tower.... alot..

I think I found 1 place yesterday that could give gems? Is it in one of the Laboratory experiments? You have to upgrade your lab to tier 6 or 7 I think.
But I could be totally wrong. So wait for a dev to reply :)

I found another place. In Shipyard you can send ship for 1 exotic gem/day (provided weather bonus is positive). I think it also said that reward increases 10x per Shipyard level so I am going to upgrade the port soon (although I already sent a ship with just 1 gem for today).

And it seems you buy Ember for cash, not Exotic gems.

theres also the boss fights unlocked at the statue of cubos that give them for the first kill of the respective boss and tier

You don't buy exotic gems with real money. There is no p2w in this game.

You can get exotic gems at a few different places:

• Mine (uncovering tiles)
  
• Shipyard (shipments)
  
• Statue of Cubos (fighting bosses)
  
• Factory (late-game producer)

yes but wher do i start so i can get first gems to unlock mine skillt hat gives me gems

You'll unlock the 'Statue of Cubos' building eventually, which enables the boss fight minigames. The first boss can be beaten on the first 2-3 difficulties pretty easily without any further investment, giving 30-60 exotics, and if you get good you can do a few more tiers before you start needing any boss modules. Use that initial flow of gems to unlock the mine production to get a little bit of passive generation, and then once you have a bit more you can unlock a perk in the Statue that allows you to re-fight beaten boss difficulties for 1/10th the reward, giving you a way to farm gems as well when needed. Between those and the trickle from the shipyard, you'll get more than enough exotics to coast by to MT9-10, when you can start producing them in the factory.
