That makes a colossal difference in battle length. I usually 1 or 2-shot most enemies. You can get cores with exp bonuses to put on your nexomons too. Battles are much quicker now for me and I'm getting way more exp. Side quests can also give exp boosts (permanent).
I've actually done very little grinding, mostly looking for mons and getting exp at the same time. If you're smart about it, it's roughly the same amount of effort as most other monster taming games (except the latest pokemon game which is easymode). For reference, I'm about 20 hours into this game so far.
The second trick is to set a weak nexo with those cores as main, and the second your fight start switch it out with the nexo that can one shot the enemy, it will take 2 turns this way but you can easily level up a low level nexo to become a decent level one.
Rarity factor of a Poke.. -coughs- Nexomon definatly have a lot to say on about their abilities, for instance I got a level 6 Water Rare, that started with a 110 power 100% accuracy and 52 speed for 15 stamina ability and he is a beast, especially in Infernita. Mineral and Fire poke.... Nexomons gets "Setsugai" by the share awesomeness of this little guy.
While common and uncommon tend to start with horrible stats and abilities, at least in general, have gotten one uncommon that i never leave without because the abilities are fantastic. recover 50 stamina and can heal 100% for 70 stamina.... smack on some Stamina cores, the survival is amazing.
ofcourse the ultra rares you can choose from the start are good, but i feel they do not level up quite as i would like, or perhaps i have just been extremly unlucky, as I have yet to acquire a new attack ability aside from what i started with thats actually better, i have gotten worse attack abilities and i have gotten fantastic support abilities, but not straight up oneshot power and accuracy catagories.
Anyhow, point being
EXP cores.. save up for making rank 3, screw tier 1 and 2, you get some from trading a few shards here and there as well as doing quests.
Rarity has a lot to say on a Poke.... -smacks forhead- Nexomons overall power, or at least it seem so to me.
Find a good spot to level up, like Drake Island if you plan to level up something that can handle normal, wind and plant, once you get off the airship, you have a healer and a ton of bushes so it works great. Might get tedious after a while, but eh it is a poke.... -sighs- Nexomon game, you knew you would be getting grinding.
