Purchasing Modules "Elsewhere"

Hi,

I have a question which I think i understand but still want to confirm. Even though I have had an account and FG Classic since 2009 (/flex) I am still relatively new to all the modules, stores and homebrew items for FGU.

I came across a few modules made or sold by DM guild or something. And I like to know how those modules would work. As My account on FG is linked w steam and all purchases there are automatically updated to my profile. Thats ideal for me.

But to purchase third party items, does that mean I buy them, download them and manually insert those every time I install FGU? and therefor also need to keep safe offline somewhere? Or do they also attach to my online profile.

Those types of purchases are not managed by Smiteworks so they will not be auto-managed by Fantasy Grounds. So yes, you buy them, download them, and install them to your modules folder, extensions folder, assets folder, etc. (depending on what you bought). You will need to install them again if you re-install FGU or install FGU on a new system.

The DMsGuild and DriveThruRPG will maintain your purchases - you can download them at any time. Also, if the creator updates the item on DMsGuild / DriveThruRPG, you will need to re-download and re-install. You can keep a copy locally if you want as well.

On DMSGuild, if you go to "My Library" and then "Updated Only", it'll list those items you've purchased but which have been updated since the last time you downloaded them, so that's convenient.

Also note that some of those had to be transitioned off the DMsG and into FG's Forge system because they didn't fit what the DMsG was actually designed for. You just need to find those, and subscribe to them in the Forge. https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/
