Be wary of this developer.
Regardless of your thoughts on the demo, please visit https://store.steampowered.com/app/992640/Pagan_Absent_Gods/, a game that was originally called Pagan Online until the developers abandoned it without even giving players a way to wipe their progress and start fresh. (The game is currently playable offline, however.)

During the development of that game I, and many other people tried to discuss their vision in the Discord channel. The devs weren't nice, but they weren't rude. Ignoring everybody's feedback, however, was 99.9% of the reason the game failed. Just a warning to those looking to buy this.

I think the reason they abandoned the game probably had more to do with the publisher. Yes a lot of us in the Discord had a vision for the game that was different than the game they were making. They did push back but eventually gave in and added a skill tree and mouse movement. Those were really the 2 big things that I recall. Honestly I think the game would have been better off if they had stuck with the very basic skill trees they originally had and focused more on itemization. All that ended up happening is we got a system they never intended to make, so it just wasn't very good. Otherwise the game was enjoyable.

They took it offline and in the process they broke multiple things. One example being a spell on a character, probably the best character. It's bugged permanently. So going to fix it would be.... too hard? There are about 5 devs in the chat, and 0 of them say anything. They abandoned the game and ran. There is 0 good faith in these people.

Having their own vision is fine, disagreeing with the public is some-what fine in some situations. But literally ignoring every helpful feedback in favor of jank THAT DOESN'T EVEN WORK... no. No good will from me, no benefit of the doubt. Making a functional game and not running away from it when it doesn't function is a basic thing in the modern world of game development. If that is NOT a basic thing, that developer does not deserve my money.

they have also 15 other games with good reviews.

and this title is different because they got bigger publisher and thanks to that - bigger budget. it is also single polayer game and from the 12-minutes demo looks awesome.

stop FUDing

15 different point and click hidden object games with very few reviews, yeah. And they had a publisher for Pagan, too, until it dropped them because the game was a waste of space on their (the publishers) servers.

Yeah... this game will be a mediocre game that nobody will talk about until they release a massive game. once they do, they will do interviews about where they came from. well... sorta. I mean, they will have come from the point and click genre out of all things lmao.

I hope the developers will look at this and continue to strive forward and make even better games so they can laugh and joke when looking back on how far they've came. kinda like how the developer of Binding of Isaac ended up. he came from making flash games. good times...

I feel you are judging them too harshly. There's quite a few devs that tried to enter the diablo/PoE market and are just not getting enough attention to warrant constant update and sever maintenance when there is 0 income coming in anymore. (Wolcen, Torchlight, Last Epoch) So instead of losing money and calling for bankruptcy they decided to start working on other projects, can't blame them for common sense.

These devs will never make a functional game that gets them noticed. They have as much talent as they have integrity. They could have taken the Pagan game offline and NOT broken it or fixed the game breaking bugs that taking it offline caused. That's fine, I would have had no issue. It just would have been another dev that didn't listen to feedback and made a mediocre game. But no, they took it offline and vanished. Until they come back with this sad attempt at... this jank can't even tell what its trying to clone.

They should stick to point and click games. It is very difficult to mess those up.
2 days away from releasing and no price yet? Seems fishy. Anything over $30 isn't worth it. Pretty much just tomb raider on another planet.

Either you haven't played the Scars Above demo, or you haven't played Tomb Raider - Which is it?

Nobody will even Buy this lol.
Just look at the Facial Animations... cringe af
zarucarsha Feb 27, 2023 @ 8:03pm
if this was a game where facial animations were prominent outside of cutscenes I might care about them, but seeing as this is a third-person puzzle shooter I haven't the foggiest idea why that's relevant to gameplay at all.
